Niiiiiiiice! Love me a good Fishbed.
Curious - what was the Tamiya mix to make Sov cockpit green?

I looked up the 2 colors, Gunze Sangyo H25 - Sky Blue and H46 - Emerald Green that appears to be a popular mix and tried to find matches for them in the countless jars of paint is have. After trying every blue and green I thought the blue simply needed to be very bright.
I ended up lighting some clear X4 Clear Blue, with XF2 Flat White. The right green to add ended up being XF4 Yellow Green. Since the bulk of the mix is the clear blue the color underneath also played a part. In this case the blue from the A4 tail was perfect.

Making good strides on this one Marc. Got to love the simplicity of the gap solution with the sheet styrene even if it is a head-scratcher as to the origins.

Wait...how'd I miss this? I've heard nothing but good about the Eduard kits. Kinda surprised to see the fit issues...not that they are bad enough to be deal breakers.
Looking great so far. Any ideas on scheme yet?

Hey brotha Jim. No matter how ya missed as long as ya found it in the end. My plan has been this Cuban bird.

The up side to waking up a 4 on a Sunday morning... added bench time. Air frame was finally to the point of getting it "black" with Mr. Finishing Surfacer black primer. This morning was time for some Star Trek TNG and getting the basing down in prep for the color coats. Mixed a gray that works and got the underside based and painted. Gotta love the fast drying Tamiya paint. get the initial "wet" off with a hair dryer, watch and episode of TNG and ready for masking. Forgot to snap a pic of the gray before masking. Upper surface done with a Tru-Color mix of flat light blue and big sky blue

Nice to see you have your priorities in order for a Sunday Marc! Painting + TNG + hairdryer wins every time.

It looks like I forgot top mask between the blu tack worms but I filled it in with liquid frisket. WOW did that make it super easy. Problem was that it sticks tot he blu tack and it would have take forever to separate the 2 and I'll bet I never would have gotten it all. So all that blu tack is not in the garbage. When I get into all the Spitfires I recently bought that will get expensive. To bad cuz as I said... crazy easy. Once again the effect of the black basing is there but very hard to see for 2 reasons. The pictures being 1 of them. The other is that brain process that when you are laying down thin coats of paint and get it to the point you say it looks right.... you've gone to far. Gotta work on that. The effect is there though. The bottom was taped.

Yeah with black basing you very much have to train your brain to rein it in a bit. I would also submit, with this particular scheme, tonal crush is in play. doogsmodels.com/2014/10/01/tonal-crush/
