Good afternoon all
Having just signed up I thought I should do the decent thing and introduce myself.
I've actually been pointed in your direction by another user - Sean aka vindicareassassin. (In case you've missed his stuff it is truly excellent!!! modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/thread/10032/psc-lloyd-carriers-pounder-gun)
Sean's very kindly been providing me with a lot of advice on the Britmodeller forum (am I allowed to mention them??) and he tells me that this site is a bit "more intimate"!?!? (Queue some Frankie Howerd-esk "ooh errs")
I did used to be quite active on the Armourfast forum for a few months before it went off-line but BM is so much bigger and so I was feeling a little bit out of my depth......
Now onto my modelling experience - or should I say lack of it!!
I did some limited and pretty bad modelling for 1/72 for war-gaming in my 'youf' but then nothing for over 25 years.
Then, last summer, my young son decided he wanted a model tank, after I mentioned I used to make them during a visit to a Hobbycraft store (don't ask).
He decided he wanted the Airfix 1/76 Matilda (Aussie prototype with Spigot mortar on the back). I also bought their Pz IV F1/F2 so we could have some uber simple father/son 'battles'.
I eventually managed to get them finished but they were far too complicated for him to be able to help out and the Matilda's suspension even tried my patience a bit.
Then I stumbled across these 'new-fangled' fast assembly kits (it has been 25+ years remember!!), specifically Armourfast, PSC and more recently Zvedza.
Now my son can help build the tanks we play with and even help out with with some of the painting. My young daughter's even got involved, building two Armourfast Panther's almost single-handedly - she even added some home made stowage herself!! .
Whilst I appreciate that these sort of kits are not, by their very nature, the most accurate or detailed when compared to the larger scale models on display on this forum - which I think are truly amazing by the way - it works for us and will hopefully lead to bigger, better things over time!!!
I've recently had a bit of a 'splurge' and have finally managed finish most of the 30 or so models that I'd been working on since the start of the year, so I'll be posting some pics of the better ones for comment shortly - please be gentle when I do!!
Yours
Andrew
PS Apologies to those of you who may have already read this on the BM site but a 'copy & paste' was easier than a whole new post.
