Thanks for the HF tip, I didn't know they sold the small bits. I have one not far from my house. Well I hope they still do because I need some. This is in response to a tangent we got into on my M4A3 build thread. Harbor Freight does still sell small drill bits in sizes suitable for scale modeling. I just came home from HF. They had two different sets of small bits, I bought both to see which was the better set. The $3.99 set has the following bits in it (5 x 0.5mm, 5 x 0.6mm, 5 x 0.8mm, 3 x 1.0mm, 2 x 1.2mm, 2 x 1.5mm, 2 x 1.8mm, 2 x 2.0mm, 2 x 2.35mm, 2 x 3mm) When I got home I tried using the .5mm bits and none of them had a decent enough head on them to start a hole. The larger bits worked fine. High Speed Steel Micro Bit SetThe MUCH better set of bits are these for $8.99 20 Piece Micro Carbide Bit SetThe set has two of each size bit with color coded sleeves around the shank. The set I came home with has bits from .2mm up to 1.1mm. The exact sizes are .2mm, .25mm, .275mm, .3mm, .35mm, .45mm, .6mm, .7mm, .8mm, 1.1mm. These bits come in a two nice storage cases that fold out to expose the bits. I was able to drill a hole with the .2mm bit without problem. These bits have a 1/8" shank that will work in a Dremel but not in a small pin vise. Fortunately, the shank is large enough that you can just use your finger to twist the bit

I've got a bunch of the cheaper sets...but those carbide bits look a lot more sturdy. And they're sized to properly fit in my Dremel? Sold!

I have the color coded set of bits and I love them! I have used them extensively to gouge out small details on faces and to open up details that were cast in. One note of caution, they dont tolerate lateral loads well at all ( the bigger ones work like a router bit, but I wouldnt try it with the thin ones.)

We're going to go see Rogue One at some point this weekend (I hope) so I'll snag a set. Otherwise I'd be all over it!
