Hello again. Been away from things for a while and wanted a nice simple build to get my modelling mojo working. What's simpler then a Sherman? It's the Asuka/Tasca kit from a couple years back with a small sheet of Eduard photo etch and decals. Oddly for some reason you can often find this kit cheaper then the standard boxing. I've built a couple Asuka kits in the past so I'm sure this won't disappoint. I liked all the marking options provided but I'm leaning towards one of these two. I'm leaning towards Hellcat because I like the over-painted white star. After about 2.5hrs work with this is where I'm at. Very tight fit and a very easy build. I did have a small gap where the transmission housing meets the hull, but that was easy to fix with a small amount of plastic putty. It may have been a builders error honestly. I'm hoping in the next couple weeks to set up a more permanent modelling area where I can get better pictures. So stay tuned these pics should get better. Thanks for looking. Jeff

I'll follow along - it's my favourite hull shape for a Sherman

So it's been about 6 weeks since I've posted. Been up to my eyeballs in dealing with surgeries (nothing major), work, kids home from school and a home reno. I've kept up slowly with my build but I haven't been on the net much. Finally put a dedicated modeling desk in my office. It's not much but it's SO much nicer then dragging stuff up to our kitchen table in toolboxes. Yes I should have laid down a laminate floor, but I had to spend the money elsewhere in the house. Build was out of the box except for the lionmark barrel and mr.surfacer 500 cast turret. I will add a hornet head to the figure and adjust the hands so they're a little more natural. I'm also working on a better stowage layout. Alclad primer. I of course got mr surfacer black in the mail the day after I did this. Tried out the black basing method and sprayed a few differnt shades of OD and yellow to break up the colour. And base coat down. I used Gunze USAF OD and a little sandy yellow. I wanted a little bit lighter colour with the hope that weathering would darken it to where I wanted it. On this vehicle the white turret star was over painted with OD before having the turret numbers painted on. I thought my initial work with the stencil was too neat. So free hand sprayed it kind of haphazardly with straight Tamiya OD. Hopefully it'll look OK under those big yellow letters. Thanks for looking. Jeff

Thanks for the comments guys. It's been nice to get back at things. Having a dedicated area has been fantastic. I'm kicking myself for not doing it years ago. An unexpected side effect is my oldest suddenly wants to make a model. He's 5 so I figure I'll find a snap-tite kit and let him do the snapping.
Cheers
Jeff

Got the decals down last night and sealed them this afternoon. The kit decals included in the Eduard edition of the kit are probably the best I've ever used.
I'm planning on putting the kit onto a small base. Here is a really preliminary shot. The concrete telegraph pole is from miniart. It needs to be cleaned up and textured a bit but it's pretty nice.
I'm still working on stowage ideas but would definately like to include some liberated wine. It's also from Miniart. I think there is around 180 bottles included in the set, so wine will probably start turning up in a lot of my future builds. I'll try not to get the label upside down in the future. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers Jeff

Jeff, may I suggest that you shorten the neck on your TC figure. He looks like he is a survivor of a necktie party.

Jeff, may I suggest that you shorten the neck on your TC figure. He looks like he is a survivor of a necktie party. Thanks for the advice. I was going for the no undershirt/coverall sort of thing like this. Looking at the figure especially from the back his neck did look a little long. I took about 1mm off and I think it is much better. Thanks for the tip. Jeff

Thanks for the comments. Small update. Gave the Sherman a pin wash and satin coat. Noticed a couple places around the applique armour need some touching up. Then got down to doing a little detail painting. The stowage is just a mix of value gear stuff and apoxie sculpt. For some reason I've been afraid to try making epoxy tarps. Although mine isn't perfect, it's not as hard as I imagined. The wine case and bottles are from miniart and pretty nice. The stowage needs a matte coat and rope to tie it down yet. Probably be a little slow with updates as usual but thanks for taking a look. Cheers Jeff

Excellent work. I just ordered this kit meself and am really looking forward to it after seeing yours. I like how your paint turned out... the black basing thing looks like it really worked.

Thanks for the comments guys. Finally got some time back at the bench the last night. Did some pretty minor chipping and started weathering with enamels and pigments. I'm trying to go for a dry dusty Normandy in July sort of look but I'm not really happy with the job yet. I should be able to get a little more done tonight. I'm Sorry about the quality of the picture. My kid took my Bristol board backdrop of a school project without telling me, which of course made me think I was losing my mind wondering how I lost a 3ft sheet of white paper. Thanks for looking.
