My wife has a Silhouette Cameo vinyl cutter and I'm going to experiment with using it to make airbrush masks for simple shapes like US Stars and German Crosses.
Have any of you ever done this and have any tips?

I cut my first mask using my wife's Cameo. Was fairly easy. I'm going to use this on my M4A3 build where I had the decal problem. If this works good, then this will be my new prefered method for US Stars. I'm excited to attempt this with German Crosses.

After spraying it, I got a little bleeding. Next time I will use real masking Vinyl instead of a scrap my wife had laying around.

Brian, you're lucky your wife has such a tool. Self adhesive vinyl masks are a common aftermarket product. I'm using mostly brass stencils, but they don't produce borders that sharp like in your test. See if you can carefully scrape off the bleeding with a sharp blade before trying anything else.

I've been using a Silhouette Cameo for several years, it's an indispensible hobby tool. I use Tamiya masking sheets most of the time, once in a while vinyl if the curves are minimal.

Just to make sure I'm on the same page, you are talking about the almost full-page sheets of Tamiya masking tape?

Hey chromdome looks like your 1st mask was a success! I use the same mask jeaton does. Good stuff, goes around almost any curve, and usually the only reason I get any traces of paint under it is user-error lol I do alot of complicated masks so if you've got any questions throw them out. Happy to help.

It's definitely a tool to have. I also looked it up already in en electronics shop, but I will have to wait until the budget situation eases again.
