Those of you who've been in his hobby for a number of years have probably learned how quickly a given kit can disappear and become virtually unattainable, except at an exorbitant price that most can't or won't pay.
The first time I experienced this was with AMT's White Freightliner kit. I built one decades ago at the age of 12, (not well) and eventually wanted to try again once I'd developed better skills, but by then there weren't many to be found and the ones that were available were going for $150.00 and up. I had virtually given up on the idea of getting another one until a minor miracle occurred and Round2 (?) was somehow able to repop those 50+ year old kits.
Recently, that same group did the same thing for the AMT Mach Won Mustang funny car. I'd also had this kit as a kid and wanted a chance at a do-over, but I never saw one for sale in any store and the ones for sale on Ebay were also trading for $150.00+.
Lastly, there was Revell's '70 Dodge Charger, one of my top 3 favorite muscle cars of all time. I didn't buy one when they came out, figuring there'd always be one on Ebay later (slow learner) but when I started seriously looking, they were trading north of $70.00, which I wouldn't pay. Fortunately, I eventually expanded my searches beyond the usual sites and found a sealed kit at some small hobby shop back east. $23.00 + $8.50 shipping. Guess who was elated.
My hope now is that someone will get the rights to reproduce JoHan kits via 3D printing (yeah, I know, legalities) 'cuz some of those subjects weren't offered by anyone else.
