I like sideline projects like this to give us a break from the "norm" that we tend to get into in modeling. For a LONG time I built aircraft, then I switched to auto modeling around 10 years ago. Now.....I'm ready to switch back to aircraft modeling for a while. Funny how we get into our grooves and then break out of it with something like you've done here. Good work on this ship Patrick. Nicely done bud.

Yup, very cool. It's always good to take a break from the norm. You never know what you'll learn, and you can come back refreshed.

A great example of superb marketing, i’d buy this just on the boxart. Nice work replicating it!! is the sail plastic or do they give a piece of cloth?

Oh, man, all those figures! Painting or decaling the sail would be fun as well.

So cool. I have been looking for one of these kits for a while From a little reading around, you'd be better off with Emhar's 1:72nd model of the Gokstad ship, it's pretty accurate and they also do a full crew for it (available separately). Next best is the Revell Gokstad in alleged 1:50th scale (actually about 1:63rd). Avoid the Heller 1:60th version if you stumble across it in one of it's many boxings. Their little 1:180th version has the model under oars and sail despite simultaneously having the sail draped over the oars as a tent... Cheers, M

Sweet! I think that kit was originally released by Aurora way back when… talk about a blast from the past seeing this build!

Nice build Patrick! I've been looking for a Viking ship and a Chinese junk for years. Seen a few that were interesting but not really what I was looking for. One of these days I'll find one. Yours looks interesting. Might pick one up.
Stay safe. Jim

I think that kit was originally released by Aurora way back when… talk about a blast from the past seeing this build! Yep. Even the box art is the same with Atlantis just replacing Aurora.
