No progress pics until complete as I have a surprise in store for this one. This is the box art from the issue I am building but all I have is a pile of parts. I do need a favour though. Does anybody have a spare set of decals? Knowing this crowd this is probably a silly question actually. Scheme or version doesn't matter as I am not doing a particular aircraft on this build. I will gladly pay a reasonable price and the normal horrid shipping costs to here won't be an issue because they could just be cut to fit into a regular letter envelope so it will only be $1.50.

This'll be fun to watch and glad that you're in the GB. I've got a couple of sheets but they are for an A8/R2 Tony. Let me know....

Well, you have me in suspense Tony. Can't wait to see your finished product. Sorry that I am unable to help out with the decals.

Don't think that the actual version of aircraft really matters I just need some markings. The original decals were pretty much just the crosses and some random numbers and even if I had them they would be 60 years old and unusable so anything at all is an improvement.

Aurora…my favorite purveyors of vintage Indy car kits, although those were actually reboxed Best plastics kits. Can’t wait to see this old gem when you get it stuck together!

I've got extra sets for A-2, A-3 or A-5. But I could cut out (masks for) pretty much anything if you want to paint it. JLMK

Do you have instructions that show the markings to use as a basis for making new decals, or remnants of the decal sheet?

Do you have instructions that show the markings to use as a basis for making new decals, or remnants of the decal sheet? Not looking to replicate the original but need more complete, modern, to scale decals for the project. Joe has me hooked up. Interesting thing about the decals on these. The guy that did the first box art in 1954 based it upon a captured 190 that was in the US. The only marking he drew were the crosses and the US stock number that had been stenciled on. This box art is what they based the decals on so what was included (and molded right on the model for that matter) were the US fuselage code and wing identifiers. This is why the markings were so odd. The first few kits made had the swastika decal and molded lines for them on the tail but people raised such a stink that Aurora actually reworked the brand new molds and reissued the kit with crosses in place. These first run kits can cost up to $500 today if you have a good unbuilt one. Second run kit less than a year after the first run.

Do you have any sprue shots of this kit that you have? There was a point in time that I considered collecting as many old unbuilt Aurora kits as possible so I did a lot of reading on the collector sites. When I started shopping I decided that at the prices they were going for I could buy 3 or 4 modern kits that I could actually build. Did pick up a handful of old kits before giving up though and still watch for deals. I do have sprue shots but they contain spoilers for my eventual plans so will not be shown until the project is done.

I think that the Aurora FW-190 is the only kit older than the original Monogram Fw-190 in 1/48.

Well the decals arrived. Apparently somebody, somewhere thought they posed a huge international security risk and had to open the package to inspect them!
