Hey all, It's been quite a minute since I have been online here. I thought I'd share a little on what I've had going on behind the scenes. This is a kitbash using a third nacelle from the same kit, and an ambassador class deflector dish. LEDs were from Amazon I believe. I forget how to add images so I'll make a second post when I figure it out

I'll have some more up to date images tomorrow, alongside the Impala and Corsair I've been working on. The Corsair is a restoration of an old revell kit, I'm custom doing some details so it's a step outside my comfort zone.

In general, my next steps are to fill all those pesky cracks and holes, then build new intercoolers for the top and nacelle and then I need paint. I will have to mask all the bussard collectors and the deflector dish but that's not hassle. I'll also need a name. My vision of this ship was to have an Ambassador style whilst retaining the OG look of the 2260s design. I might have a comparison picture lying around somewhere...
Point was, I want the name to reflect the lineage of the Ambassador class. It was the breaking point for the Federation in terms of technology and was the precursor to the well known Galaxy class (Enterprise D from Next Gen). Any ideas, please share!

Hmmm, Calling it Constitution is a bit of a softball I guess but it would work as an homage to the first Star Trek heavy cruisers. Or maybe a name from history? As a capital ship you could go Victory, only one first rate has survived the tides of time, after all… or maybe a tribute to the Vulcan crew lost on the Constitution class Intrepid and call it Intrepid? Endless possibilities but I’m enjoying the project.

Your design reminds me of a small wargaming plastic miniature I had back in the late'70s/early '80s, I think it was the model on the right: Regards, M

Or I am a little slow and you’re looking for the entire class name and not the name for the ship itself…in that case I prefer Victory and obviously that totally rules our Constitution. An appropriate name for a heavy cruiser class at any time. Although the tribute to the lost Intrepid would still work.

I like where you're going with this. I will ponder on USS Victory, I will have to get custom decals for it, so that will be interesting to track down. USS Intrepid was a constitution class starship, so that's taken.
I have come up with a bit of (headcannon) lore surrounding this ship:
Built in the late 2250's nearing the end of the Romulan War, constitution class starships were outfitted with a third nacelle, alongside newly shaped nacelles to support more steady warp fields at higher speeds. This design was primarily used to transport delegates of the Federation and allied civilizations at high speeds. The new spatial geometry that these super steady warp fields had another advantage that was used in conflict. The ability to create a warp field much quicker and more stable meant that if necessary, these ships could jump in and out of conflict. This tactic was used to rescue and evacuate critical vessels or outposts/ stations without staying in the area for too long. The class was decommissioned in the mid 2260's.

Honestly, I am open to both. The class name could also be the ship name if this was the first of the class.

Gotcha. Wasn’t sure on your timeline. If it was after when the intrepid was destroyed it would’ve been a fitting tribute to the lost Vulcan crew but as it’s before then yes, a different direction is needed. I read 2260s but wasn’t putting it altogether in my brain. Perhaps as an offshoot of the Constitution class you could also use another carrier name that they hadn’t used at the time. Forrestal, Ranger, Langley, Kitty Hawk, Nimitz. Just spitballing. Ship names and class names are fun.

The original 1700 series Constitutions also favoured battlecruisers, with Hood and Kongo, while Saratoga and Lexington were originally laid down as BCs, and Enterprise herself could commemorate both the U.S.N. ships (7 so far and one building) and the dozen in RN commission.

M
