SBS Review
There is a step by step printed on the back of the package to guide you in the painting.
Here is a little and quick SBS I did with this set to see what the colors look like on a model and how they go on. first off let me say that I personally am not a big fan of the CM technique or style of painting, but that is just me. I do like to use this style of painting with only two or three colors to highlight or create shadows.
So on with the SBS.
I started by priming the test piece, here a Sinkie from Celticwerks. The primer used came from another AK CM set. I then sprayed the first color which is a dark brown for the shadow areas.
next came the second dark color. This color has more red in it than the first which is a dark brown.
I did find these two colors to be a bit too thick and did spatter when using the AB, even at a high pressure.
Continuing up the scale with lighter colors for base colors.
These colors have more red in them as they get lighter, and they are also easier to spray and have finer pigments. The next base color.
Starting the highlights, and you'll notice the color is changing more to the brown tone.
After applying the base colors the highlights stand out more.
Now we see the color of the highlights turning more brown in tone than the base colors. These highlight colors are also much thinner and have fine pigments.
Finally we get to the lightest color in the set. This color is a tanish brown and very thin. It sprayed great and covered well. It does need two coats if applied by paint brush to areas such as the hinges and bolt heads.
Conclusion
Although I did have some minor problems with the first two dark shadows, the base and light colors gave me no problems with the airbrush application.
A welcome addition for those who build E and paper panzers.
Now all AK has to do is come out with some enamel effects for the red primer and that will round it all off. I will let this dry then try using streaking grime for panzer gray tanks and see what happens.
