Hi all
Bronco recently released their kit #AB3557 WWII Hungarian 20L Jerry Can & 200L Fuel Drum Set which considering their two new Hungarian AFV’s, and MiniArt’s impending Hungarian Tank Crew, could have all sorts of potential uses.
Mike Shackleton recently reviewed the Bronco Models Hungarian 40/43M ‘Zrinyi’ II here modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=miniart&action=display&thread=1787 (great review by the way) and the in action history he discusses really helps put this set into context.
Bronco also have the 44.M Zrinyi I 75mm Assault Gun kit #CB35121 in release.
This is MiniArt’s pending figure set.
The kit
Used by the Hungarians in these theatres, and probably the other combatants in those areas too, the set as many uses to a wide range of modellers both armour and diorama. The set represents the drums and cans introduced by the Hungarians (copied from the Germans of course) in 1941 very well. The 20 ltr cans I believe were based on the early models produced by ABP and Brose c. 1937/38. I have some photos of the real items courtesy of my Hungarian contacts but I can’t reproduce these here; however I can say the items especially the detail and markings are spot on when compared to these pictures.
The set consists of three sprues of Bronco’s usual light tan styrene and three frets of Photo etch for the jerry cans. In total the set contains enough parts to build six 200 litre fuel drums and twelve 20 litre jerry cans. The parts are crisp and perfectly moulded.
Colours are recommended for three paint manufacturers and this is the only place I found an error; for Feeld gary substitute Field Gray!
200 Litre Drums
The drums consist of eight parts each. The idea of reproducing the lifting rings is great it means that the inevitable seam lines on the drums when mated can be removed more easily before the rings are fitted ( although there will be tiny seams on the rings to contend with this is better than larger more difficult ones IMHO).
20 Litre Jerry Cans
The cans consist of five pieces each and are very well detailed indeed. PE is used to represent the centre seam that runs around the whole container where the two pressed halves were brazed (?) together. I’m not 100% but I reckon the cans have separate spouts (HB5) as well as flip lids (HB1). All you need is to drill out the spout for the ultimate in detail.
A great set extremely well detailed, very well produced and 100% accurate. This set fills another hole in the market so all in all potentially useful. Just need British ones now Mr Bronco?
Highly recommended.
