Hi Guys, Well after a long summer of construction work round the Ranchito I'm finally back in the bunker and starting back from where I left off last spring. "Easy Pickins" is a 200mm diorama with two figures and two 1/9th motorcycles, the BMW R75 from Dragon and Italeri's 1/9th scale Harley. A lot of time went in to research finding schematics for each rig to get the details correct. At this scale there's no excuse for missing any detail that can be added. I'm enjoying the process each one of the bikes presents, challenges and all. Heck, this Sport wouldn't be any fun without it anyway, lol. So, here's a few pics to get everyone up to speed and of course all comments are welcome. If yall see something I may be missing, please pipe up. I'm always learning and I guarantee there's gonna be something I've missed. Thx for watchin, Ski. Initial build, 1/35 figure for scale reference The first figure and Harley partial completion. The figure is from Warrior Models' 1/9th US Infantry BAR Gunner, US Ranger. This second figure is from the Verlinden Series Super Scale 200mm Panzergrenadier. I'm a bit further along, but here's a pic of some of the detailing taking place to get this BMW up to speed. I've "glazed" or tinted the engine with the initial coat of oils for the varnish oil and fuel create over time. We are by no means close to the final rendition just yet. Thx for watchin, Ski. ;D

Thx Guys, more to follow shortly. Friday AM is a full bunker day for me, so I'll try to get some pics up, wiring and air can clamp fabrications, etc. ski i know you work with oils but did you do all the painting with oils? it looks absolutely fantastic. joe Hiya Joe, long time no see, lol. I use acrylics for the base tone after the primer coat, then it's oils only for the figures. I hate the concept of constantly layering, but I love to blend. Ever since early 90's it's been oils. Dinasour I recon, but he results can be stunning. We'll have to get together for a 1 on 1 with Joe and get you two working a cheap bust or something in large scale, from bottom to top. If I can do it so can you or anybody else. We'll have to slot some time this spring or summer, sound good? Thx again Guys. Cheers, Ski.

Thx for the kid words Mark, Sam and Joe, greatly appreciated. Joe, we'll make er happen one way or another Brotha. Here's an update. Although my all-day Friday bunker session was scuttled, I did manage to get a little bit done, air box parts and some wiring configuration. I'll go back and redo the spark plug lines and drill direct into the engine and plugs, insert the floral wire and go from there. Trying to connect to the stubs on the kit is worthless and only leads to unnecessary frustration. There's a lot going on at one time, so I won't cover it all, but just know, I'm already making the punch list (to-do list) for when I get the notion this Beemer is done. But, like I said, plenty of good old war movies playin on the boob box and we're set, lol. Thx for watchin and please fire away if you see something that needs attention. Cheers, Ski. I find using copper sheet works as well as brass, but easier to work with and the scale is still acceptable, even 1/9th. This gig I made for the Harley looks rather crude, but it works well, especially after I get the tires on. Keeps my hands free to work. A closer look at the wiring and where the air box will go. The instructions for this come way too late in the game to install in the end. Trying to get it into this tight spot after the throttle cable and wiring is installed would be a major mistake and result in broke parts and the temptation to launch this sucker into the abyss, lol. The right side view, which is often omitted from the instructions only to say, do the same on the right. The instructions are rather vague, so I'm taking my time. Thx for watchin. Ski.

Thx Ed,
But ya gotta remember, Large Scale figures are actually easier if ya think about it; you see your mistakes right away and can fix them on the spot, and you can add a heck of a lot of detail. My only concern realistically is where the heck do I put it when it's done, lol. Thx for watchin Ed.
Cheers, Ski.

Thx Guys,
I'm trying to knock out the bike to get to the structure and ground work. That is where it's make or break on this dio. Layout has to be just right or the whole thing is a wash.
Thx for watchin. Cheers, Ski.

I can't wait to see this develop and what you do with the German figure. I guess he'll be subjected to a little surgery LOL?

Hiya Smudge,
Hope ya got that Stryker back in order. The German figure won't get too much of a work over as far as I can see right now, but we'll work it when the base and layout gets started. I'm still grinding over the engine details and messing with the wiring. Between research and plowing snow, we're making steady progress. Thx for watchin Brotha and I'll post more soon.
Cheers, Ski.

Ok, been working the wiring and had to remove the fuel tank to get to some of the tight spots, lol. Another example of going backward to go forward, doooeeee! Anyway, a few photo updates and I'll be back in the bunker till rack time. Comment and question as yall see the need and thx for watching. The rear fender and wiring with clamps. I'm using phone line wire and shoving copper wire into the ends where needed to show the splits. I had to remove the tank to make life eaiser. Anther example of going backwards to go forward, lol. A closer look with a few of the copper clamps. And there's that wonderful fuse box that eluded me for so long, right in the middle of the pic, kinda the brains of the system from the battery on. There's more to add to it in the next few days. Cheers, Ski.

Dicky, Joe,
Thx Guys. I was intent on a full day, my Friday, but had to get on a roof loaded with snow and run the plumbing snake to clear the kitchen sink....................Go Figure! I had a crummy feelin on the way home this wasn't going to be an easy job. At any rate, I'll be making a day of it Saturday and the heck with anything else, ya right, we'll see.
Thx for watchin Gents and I'll update ASAP.
Cheers, Ski.

Hi Guys, Got a full day in the bunker on Saturday, so here's what's new; I wired and installed the battery and the fuse box. The clutch cable and new plug wires are visible. The horn wires and the rest of the rear cables ready for the front fork installation. The intake air tubes with clamps and fuel lines installed. Right side view of the fuel and air intake lines with clamps. I also closed off the knee pad locations on both sides of the fuel tank. I used green floral wire for all the cables and wires as well as some copper wire. Thin strips of sheet copper were used to fashion the line clamps. The battery terminal hook ups were fashioned out of scrap sprue and drilled to replicate actual connections. Thx for watchin, Ski.
