Mel looks pretty good so far. It's cool getting a built or partially built kit, then you just have to do the rest and then get straight to the fun part. Might have to check ebay for these pre built models and just do the painting.

I found five mostly built kits from the same seller for about $40 - could not pass up the deal. I prefer the painting and weathering aspect so this was a great opportunity to do just that.

Thanks Dan. They appear once in a while on EBay. Keep looking you'll get lucky sooner or later.

I primed and sprayed the dark rust and base color. This was done using the Hairspray method. The next step is so seal everything with a coat of clear coat. Next the whitewash.
Question on the whitewash: should I spray it just on top of the green or over the entire vehicle?

5 for $40.....can't beat that Mel.
I would spray the W/W only on the green areas. If the rear is burnt then there won't be any white, except for the burnt and charred paint/ ash. Love seeing the rust stages of a model. Will be following this one.

Quick update. Here are all the steps so far: 1. Primed w/Vallejo grey primer 2. Sprayed “rust” color on the vehicle. 3. Applied Hairspray, sprayed Green to front area. Chipped green paint 4. Applied coat of Testor’s Clearcoat. 5. Applied Hairspray, applied Tamiya Flat White (thinned with lacquer thinner), and chipped white paint.” 6. Applied a dark wash to whitewash area (humbrol 94). 7. Applied filter (oil various colors) to a couple of areas on the top and the hull and mantle. As always your comments and suggestions are very much welcome. Mel

Looking good Mel, the beat-up whitewash just adds to the "heaviness" of this beast.

Here are all the last steps: 1. Applied a couple more washed using AK Interactive Dark Wash. 2. Highlighted seveal areas with HUmbrol White. 3. Chipped with base Green color (sponge) 4. Applied Streaking Grime to hull sides (Winter grime and Grime for Green vehicles). 5. Applied AK Interactive Light Rust to several areas. As always your comments and suggestions are very much welcome. Mel

Hi Mel,some great work gone into this,sir!....I'm not entirely sure...but can I hazard a guess that this is purely an engine fire, that originated front left of the engine compartment?,and then carried into the main crew compartment?I can see no combat damage, that's why I ask.

Like where this one's headed Mel, the contrasts between the front and rear portions make for good before/after look.

Love that last top down shot in particular. Whatever methods you're using, they are producing some nice colors and variations.

Thanks for all the comments guys! I've had a ball so far experimenting with the various techniques - this was a two for one since I was able to do winter white wash and weathering, as well as burnt effects, not to mention heavy mudding and weathering - a blast!
