Meanwhile, Back at Big John's Bench. Clean up continues on the WC 54 There are a lot of raised ejector pin marks that need to be filed flush in order for the body panels to fit properly. Clean up will continue for a while.

Yep, lots of clean up on those old Italeri kits but with some work and TLC they do look nice. Yours is really coming along nicely John!

Great kit!! I remember having a bash at one of these about 30 years ago and have another one started in the stash. One of my favourite kits and a great ambulance.

Just base coated the interior sections. I didn't go well at all. First I tried Tamiya Olive Drab instead of my usual Model Masters enamel. Don’t know if I had the tamiya thinned enough, plus some moister problems and I wound up with speckles all over the finish.
Kept getting paint build up in the tip of my airbrush. Spraying at about 15 PSI, I wonder if I need to up the pressure.

Hey brother John, that sux that the Tamiya didnt go well for ya. 15psi should be plenty, thats where i set mine for most all my AB work. If your AB is good and clean id think you didnt thin enough. What was your approx ratios? Alot of people say 50/50....doesnt work for me bro, i thin much more than that. I also only use lacquer thinner to thin. I also like to add a bit of gloss to the mix. I never have paint build up on the tip either. Hope ya get it sorted out bro. Gary

I am not sure this is the place for a comment on the Ambulance. It is an interesting subject but it was one of the most difficult kits I ever built, couldn't get the cab doors to fit like they should among other issues. I keep holding out for a whole new re-do of the Dodge vehicles, it is over due.
The interior was green Masonite and I suspect because of the huge amount of blood that most of them experienced not many with the original interior paint survived.

Gary's right ! If you apply a Tamiya Flat color this can happen, two or three drops of Clear can help, and thin down with Laquer thinner. You won't have this problem in the future then. I like the subject bj !

Hey Gary,
Yes, approximately 50/50 mix by the ol eye ball with lacquer thinner. I’ll try thinning it further next time. I’m also going to try a little higher pressure. I’m pretty sure I was getting some moister through the air brush as well. My old trap might have seen its days, plus the basement was wet tonight (house was built in 1889 with the stone cellar walls) Heavy rain all day and water coming it pretty heavy.
I have a moister trap that mounts to the fire wall on semi trucks. It’s used on the air line going to the air operated fan hub. It’s a brand new trap and I saved it from being thrown away at work. I just installed it on my compressor and ran it for a while. No moister coming out of the air brush now.
Teabone,
Yeah, It’s a pig of a kit, but I’m gonna try and make something of it. Lots of test fitting so far!
Guy,
Thank you!!! I'll get some clear and give it a try!!!!

Hey Gary, (house was built in 1889 with the stone cellar walls) The weather probably contributed to the moister. I use the moister trap that screws onto my AB...works great! I new your house was Built many many years ago but i forgot the date. How many ghost you have there? Later Brotha, Gary

Took the interior panels with the speckled paint to the kitchen sink and wet sanded them with fine steel wool. Let that dry and try again.

Is that the same one used in "The Dirty Dozen"? You should red arm bands on the occupants with a little George Kennedy standing ion the right running board.

Na guys, it’ll be fine. Not much bench time, then I had that bad experience with the Tamiya paint. Wet sanded it down to repaint, and then I noticed both PE pedals I had glued on went MIA. It’s a good thing I’m going to close it up as they would have been hard to see anyway.
Just one of those builds that tries your patience, but I’ll keep plugging away.
