Good Day Folks!
Are there any aftermarket parts for the M48A3 Tamiya kit? Also, I noticed in the hull, that there are markings for battery placement, what is that used for?
Thanks in advance,
-Steven

Not sure what is all out there for after market items. A search on eBay for "1/35 M48A3" yeilded a few AM items.
Years ago, Tamiya provided an electric motor with the kits so you could turn them on and watch them crawl accross the floor. They are still the same kit, but with out the electronics.

Legends does some AM for the kit, and I'm pretty sure it's BarrelDepot that does a nice 90mm replacement gun tube. Also available is a good set of tracks from AFV Club. Long out of production is a set of conversion parts from LoModels out of Taiwan, which had chunky pieces to do some light conversions. I still pick them up at shows since they include a usable Urdan cupola. I would also imagine somebody does some basic brass for the various bits and pieces. Didn't Verlinden do some parts as well?

Now if soneone would do the M8 'dozer setup, I'd be extremely pleased. I started a Tamiya kit a while ago with teh idea of converting the Academy M9 setup and then was totally unable to find a set of drawings (or even pics) good enough to work from....I'm looking for a pic now but p-bucket is slow today. Here it is......

I'll look at that..... Dicky Sir, I probably could adapt the Acad M9 kit (I have a couple in the stash) but I haven't found a good enough pic or any drawings. The above-mentioned tech manual would be nifty. I guess M48 fenders were pretty flimsy. That, and jungle-bashing probably combined to do them in quickly. I also have the nose down about 5-10 degrees to show the weight of the dozer ass'y, so I'm kind of on hold on this one until I can scare up enough info to adapt Acad's M9 blade kit. There's a pic in the Squadron M48 book that I'm inspired by, so I'm still motivated.

Yeah, it's a pretty good reference. Hunnicutt's M48/American mediums book would be cool, but they're pricey. Squadron also did a Book on the M48 is VietNam, also very good. I have it as well, but nothing usable (concerning the M8 dozer kit) in it.

Tank Workshop has a resin turret and cupola for the Tamiya kit. AFV Club tracks are a must as far as I'm concerned. Everything else seems to have been mentioned.
I believe every M48 I ever saw had buggered up fenders.
