I thought it was about time I introduce myself to you all, some of you might of noticed that I have already posted a few questions in eastrock's thread on the Revell Skip's Fiesta '60 Corvette that he is working on. I came across your forum when looking for a build thread on that particular model kit after I had brought it myself. It was great to come across eastrock's thread on your forum and he has been very helpful to me answering all my questions.
Well a little bit about myself is in order, firstly I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. After suffering a work related accident I am now retired, I was a painter & decorator for over 30 yrs and although I started in the domestic side of painting (schools, houses & units) I spent the most of my career in the commercial side of the game (painting high rises and industrial buildings). I specialised in water proof & texture membranes but I have done just about everything in the game over the years.
Well with painting as my background I was really fascinated by the painting processes in modelling, also the scratch building and weathering techniques used to achieve such great looking models. I hope by joining forums like MSC I'll pick up a few tips before I finally get around to making my first kit and I'm still in the process of getting a bit of a starters kit together.
Anyway guys hope I can contribute to the build threads as time goes on and I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions along the way.

Thanks for the overwhelming response guys... Cheers. I'll just be tagging along for the ride for a bit, watching some your builds if you don't mind. I've already enjoyed seeing quite a few of your builds and the outstanding workmanship that has gone into them. I also wanted to take the time to say thank you to anyone that has shared their builds on forums such as this one, let me tell you it's a great help for novices like myself. The more detail you give on your builds the better from my perspective, all those small details that go into making a model are very useful. I have little girl who is only 2 1/2 years old and she takes up most of our time. She's a darling little girl who demands your full attention and with her arrival, the house has been thrown into chaos if you know what I mean. So until I get a few things sorted out around the house, reclaim my garage and get rid of some of the stuff we no longer need... modelling will have to wait. Having said that though, I have started on the clearing things out but my first priority is painting my boat while the garage is empty. I found my old work bench was showing it's age in the process and the chip board has begun to deteriorate on me. So I'll need to replace that with plywood but it is over 60 yrs old and it was my Grandad's so it's held up considerably well for it's age. Anyway guys with a bit hard work I'll hopefully be setup by earlier next year if I don't have any other set backs. The wife is already on my back to stop buying kits and I think she's right, a dozen kits will keep me going for a while once I start. Just hard to resist a bargain when you find one on EvilBay. So thanks guys look forward to seeing and reading about your builds.

Nice to get a welcome from "The Boss" I must say, it seems like I pass the job interview but I can't help but feel nervous with the Boss watching over my shoulder. I have this funny feeling I'm not going to live up to his expectations and I might be considered a slacker if I don't build something soon . Only joking scratchmod thanks for the welcome. You're right Vemon1 but amateur is probably not the best word to use as I haven't built a model yet, last one I did was over 25 yrs. ago and maybe the word NOOB is closer to the mark as we say in the gaming world. Just buying the kits can be half the fun (very addictive) so I can just imagine what building them is going to be like. By the way thanks for pointing out my spelling mistake vemon1 I hadn't noticed that before, with these bloody pain killers the Doc's have got me on... I tend to do that a lot these days but I'll correct them as I see them.

Hey Sabre, no problem buddy! Wasn't pointing out any spelling mistakes, just emphasizing the word "dozen", for the sake of my lame joke . I didn't even notice any speling spleling wrong writing!! Glad you are enjoying the buying, mate, I think you are not alone there. We all love to give the wallet a bit of a workout, and it's a nice fuzzy feeling when that brown cardboard box full of goodies from Mr Postman rocks up on your doorstep. Why, I got one just yesterday from my good friends at HLJ! Truth be told, I kinda admire people with only a small stash. Certainly makes it easier to decide what to build next! Careful though, this "buying kits" thing is pretty addictive, you will have them falling out of every available storage space in the house before you know it!! Oh, and don't worry about being a "noob", and certainly don't be afraid of showing off your work around here. Around here, we don't care what skill level you think you are, you are always good enough for MSC. Me and the rest of the lads are looking forward to seeing your stuff as soon as you are ready to show it off! Cheers, Sam

No worries Venom1 I did get your joke But to tell you truth I am starting to feel that the pressure is on, even before I have started a build. I been looking through the forum and have seen one outstanding model after another that you guys have produced over the years... you definitely set the bar high. Take Dan B's "Raw Steel Mark IV", Wing-nuts King Tiger, Bigjohn's Dragon King Tiger or Doogsatx's Sopwith Snipe just for starters then you have Bofors's Snipersmudge, mz3's Hobby Boss Merkava 4, you've also got DickF's Fantastic Scratch Builds and Keith Christie's latest build... the list goes on & on & on & on. Then I come across a Mancaves Thread where you got again DickF's Fantastic Mancave Build, Spud's Paint Collection, Macmcconnell's Soldier Collection, AndyArgent's Museum of Award Winning Models, Silas's Brush Collection, Heiner's Airbrush Collection, Heiner's Medal Collection and I started to feel a bit inadequate as I still haven't even started on mine. But then I showed the wife Carl's Kit Collection and as her jaw drop and as the cheque book was hidden a smile come across my dial as I knew I'd chosen the right hobby to get into.

But then I showed the wife Carl's Kit Collection and as her jaw drop and the cheque book was hidden a smile come across my dial as I knew I'd chosen the right hobby to get into. You sure have buddy, best hobby in the wurld!! As far as feeling inadequate, don't give it a second thought mate! I agree wholeheartedly that there are some exceptional modellers on this site (some I could never live up to!) but also keep in mind that a lot of these chappies have been doing this a fair bit longer than your good self! You are among friends here, and the best possible thing you can do is to dive right in and have a crack. There are no "rivet counters" here, but there is lots of support and encouragement. Not to mention a plethora of inspiration! Please do not be afraid to post your work, we are all more than willing to encourage you along the way and give you advice if you seek it. The only way you will grow as a modeller is to try (and sometimes fail), learn from what you did that didn't turn out the way you wanted , file away in your memory banks the stuff that you nailed , and move on to the next kit in yer ever growing stash! I have no doubt that every one of the chaps you mentioned above has had their fair share of fails. Trick is to not to get discouraged and don't be afraid to try. Now get building and get posting!!! Cheers, Sam

Thanks danb, Good to see a fellow painter on the forum mate, this modelling game will be a bit different from getting out the old nook & cranny and fitch brush to get to those hard to reach spots I bet. At least there are no dead lines to meet and it's a far cry from having a hundred odd doors to gloss in front of you (GOD!!! I hate glossing) but I gather it's the same principle as in our job mate... it's all in the preparation. Maybe the only difference is... sometimes you want the finish product to look like it did before you started.
