Hi everyone, As I'm new to the world of modelling I thought I ask everyone just what book you should have in your collection, the one you can not live without when it comes to modelling. I have a copy of F.A.Q.2 by Mig Jimenez on the way and from what I've read and heard on the net it's a must have but I was also wondering if Vol.1 is worth having as well or does Vol.2 cover the same techniques in it. Any suggestions much appreciated and please feel free to add more then one if you believe it's a must have in a collection. Cheers Sabre.

I have both, vol 2 is the revised vol 1 with other productst and technieqes so no need to find vol 1 ( They are rare and mosty expensieve too). Another great serie is TankArt from Mike Rinaldi. Canfora Publishing sells great books with work from great masters such as Panther, Nordic Edge series and the On Display series but don't expect much step by steps here. Don't forget to watch the AK and Mig/nightvision DVD's about weathering... So there you it

As far as basic techniques are concerned- for me it has to be How to build Dioramas by Shep Paine has everything from planning a dio , through to taking pictures of the end result and everything in between- detailing , scratch building, structures& figures. I've had mine over 20 years now and the cover is hanging off- but it, imho, is invaluable. Some consider it to be a bit old school in its approach but I think any modeller worth their salt needs to master these before trying to move on to the flavours of the current day (-and thats why I still have it ) HTH P

Mine is a book I was bought in the late 70's called 'Air Power' it covers the airforces and types then in service. Brings back memories of visiting airshows with my family, that's when you'd see 30 different aircraft flying, and building my latest acquisition in a few hours I have a plan one day to build one model from each page Most likey never never happen but we can all dream right?

I consider none of the modeling books I have absolutley essential,I enjoy having them and looking thru them, but the truth is this and the other forums and online info provide a wealth of info on techniques and procdures

Because I love German armors as much as BigJohn loves Sherman... 'Achtung Panzer' book series is petty good. They are hard to find now but I bought most of mine via eBay.

Don't have a particular book, per se....I tend to pick up little snippets of technique etc, primarily from superb forums like here at MSC,and from meeting up and chatting to way better modellers than me at shows. Migs FAQ book is very good, although I haven't got the second one,I do have the first one.

Cheers for the input guys, Thanks for the heads up elco I won't bother buying Vol. 1 then and TankArt was next on my wish list. Paulh, I see there is a second edition out for that book... How to Build Dioramas by Sheperd Paine and for as little as $11.00 U.S. looks like a great buy. Who's the Author of that book stevem I can't quite make it out from the picture ?. Do you have book titles, authors or pictures Boo that would help. You too right there tojo72 the internet is just amazing now days. Thanks deafpanzer I do love German Tanks. I came across a few of these F.A.Q. Books while looking on Amazon. Like F.A.Q.: CARS AND MOTORCYCLES: Frequently Asked Questions about Techniques Used for Painting Cars and Motorcycles at a reasonable price of around $37.00, then I came across F.A.Q.: FIGURE PAINTING: Frequently Asked Questions about Figure Painting Techniques which was going for an astonishing $3,855 and just when you thought that was over the top. I see the asking price for this book F.A.Q.: PLANES: Frequently Asked Questions about Techniques used for Painting Aircraft is $6,000 or $560 for a used one... surely that can't be right... must be printed in gold. So if you have one these in your collection hang on to it and dare I say it... if you have a scanner PM me I'll give you me email address, nudge nudge .

I was just in the process of doing just that but had to have a rethink, $82.00 to post 3 books from the states is a joke.

Hunnicutt's Sherman book is on my short list. Then would be a work if fiction from Harold Coyle, "Team Yankee", just to read twice a year or so.
