Some nice subtle coloration Ben. Well done. Cheers Wingy! Like Andy said, I've got to be super careful with weathering etc now as I don't want to lose it all. I did a similar thing with my Elefant build last year and did an overspray to take the edge of the cammo - that worked well but washes were kept to pinwashes and filters. QUESTION: I'm VERY embarrased to admit this but I've had a total mind-blank I usually follow a process that, following much trial and error and research, seemed to be the correct procedure. I have my procedure written down to get everything done in the right order and I've lost my sheet! I knew I should have put it on Word and saved it!
Right now, it's basecoated, pure and simple. I'm thinking glosscoat the decal areas now, apply decals and seal with an all over glosscoat for the pinwashes etc.
Can someone PLEASE clarify - should I be applying filters, drybrushing the DY highlights on the rivets and chipping now PRE GLOSSCOAT or AFTER GLOSSCOAT - I can't damn well remember! How stupid is that??? I mean, seriously! WTF? I'm not working on her today and will resume work tomorrow if I haven't forgot how to walk or something too - my mind is going! Old age? Thanks guys, Ben

Hey Ben, I always dry brush on a matte surface, I find that it gives a better result. What kind of paint are you using for this, Humbrol, oils or acrylic? I never used acrylic for dry brushing so I don't know about that.when it is dry a cote of gloss acrylic varnish from Tamiya, add decals, another cote of gloss or satin varnish and then the rest of the weathering.
Enjoy
Eddy

Think of it this way Ben. Are you going to get your car all dirty just before you paint it or paint it and then it gets dirty? Do your painting first, then details, dry brushing. Then clear coat, then decals, seal decals. Now you can filter and pin wash. Now dull coat and do your pigments, then put it on the shelf and start another one. Tony lee

Thanks Tony mate - God do I feel daft! I've only been doing this for 5 years now! Thanks too Eddy - I use Acrylics for all my work (apart from oils for some weathering). All my detail painting is done with Vallejo Model Colour (Acrylic). Cheers for the comments Gary - it's not what I had planned (exactly) but I can work with this ok. Thanks guys, Ben

Looks like you've saved it and have it heading in the right direction Ben. Might want to trim that antenna a bit though, it looks a bit too long/tall at least in the latest pics.

[/quoute] Hi guys, Bill: I've just offered the 38(t) antennae up to the RB one's in my stash and it's bang on 2 scale metres. It's not a regular RB Antennae - I'm not sure who it's from. It's certainly not RB and I'm screwed if I can get the kink out the end so I'm inclined to replace it as some point. The 38(t) antennae should be 2 metres long - yes? Cheers Bill, Ben

Nice subtle camo, there I wouldn't be able to tell you the right order, I don't use gloss/matt coats Re the tracks, if you feel pain for assembling these, try doing Friuls for the T-70/SU-76/YA-12

Thanks fellas I've trimmed about 10mm off the tip of the antennae and straightened it which has helped. I've been stupid busy today so detail painting tomorrow and if I'm feeling brave I'll have a go at the figure. Ben

Yep, 2m is the right height on the antenna. I think it was the kink in it that made it look too tall.

Hi fellas, She's coming on NICE!! Tools are painted, rubber is on the wheels, MG's are painted, rivets have been drybushed with AK's DY Shine from their DY Modulation kit. I need to get some light chipping done, gloss coat and Decals and also bore out the exhaust pipe. I need to do the hub centres on the return rollers again too. The rubber was hastily applied so apologies for the odd messy spot but I'm not worried as they'll be well dusted/muddied up. I've still got the Jack to do to stick on top of the Grouser box. The turret hatch is still unfixed as I'm hoping to be able to leave that open as long as the figure works out! The wheels are still unfixed too as I'm going to need to get some muck stuck against the lower hull walls. Great build so far - great kit!Cheers fellas - I hope you like her so far! Decals and chipping to come tomorrow! Ben

Hinsky,
I'm a big fan of the 38(t) chassis and, I must say, you've done a really nice job on this one. Love the subtle camo. Looks sunbeaten and faded from the start. I dig it!

Cheers bbrowniii, Bill & Gary, Brother Gary: Cheers dude! I'm SERIOUSLY loving this build! I've just been eyeballing your Type 97 on FB Damn, that is a beauty) and can see you have used some techniques that I want to try so expect a quick pm later if that's ok? I must look into painting that damn figure - I keep putting it off as I HATE figures but I need to know if the turret is going to be open or not! No figure - hatch closed. The interior is just too basic. I should have assumed the figure was going to feature in the build and have done some super-detailing on the main gun breech. I airbrushed the insides of the turret walls with 'Cremweiss' which has helped. When this is complete I'll be jumping straight onto the new Academy early Hetzer I've just bought - that should be good as the tools will all be replaced with decent stuff from the spares tub and I've got that stonking great fret of PE from that head-spanking Marder III Befehlsjager plus the Magic Tracks - that will pimp up the Hetzer nicely. Light chipping, gloscoat and decals will be done this afternoon! Must start getting the stowage prepped, too! Update later fellas, Ben

Hi guys, A quick update and some VERY DISTRESSING NEWS: Light chipping is done, Glosscoat is on, Decals are on and this weekend will see her complete (hopefully)! Now for the distressing news - I'm so sorry but it had to happen eventually - I bought a WINGY THINGY!More to the point - it was Italeri's 1/48 Ju 87 B-2 Stukawww.model-making.eu/products/Junkers-JU-87-B2-STUKA.htmlwww.aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=5686An impressive kit - SUPER DETAILED engine, cockpit, instrument panel supplied as both plastic with decals and also a whole PE Panel too. There's 4 different options and as my main area of interest lies in the Eastern Front I'm going for the "2/StG2 - Russia, July 1941" option. This thing is HUGE! 23cm mose to tail and a wingspan of approx. 28cm (ish). I've never attempted a serious 'wingy thing' build so I'm going to need some help and advice with this one guys! She'll be up next on the bench now! On todays shopping trip I also picked up the DVD box set of "The Pacific" for £12. That looks great! Here's my new Academy Hetzer, too: I hope you like the 38(t) so far - I'm loving the build Cheers guys, Ben

OMG! You have lost your mind!!! Get rid of that wingy kit before it gets you!!! Congrats, always wanted to build one of those Junkers. Nice haul... Hetzer is something I still don't have in my stash...
Excellent chipping job! Color looks better than last time...

Cheers fellas! I had to do it - although the Dark Side of the Force FLOWS through me - I HAD TO HAVE THAT DARN STUKA! I keep telling myself that it's not an aircraft, it's flying artillery and thus does not count. The fact it actually has wings, a pilot and flies is irrelevant. I mean, it could have been a bleedin' Spitfire (yawn) but that said I was momentarily distracted by a 1/32 Revell ME-109 but I know this kit is supposed to kick ass! I'm looking forward to it - the cockpit looks like a nightmare though Update tomorrow guys - no building today! Ben

The 38(t) is really nice, chipping is spot on Cheers AG & Luis I've spent all morning adding finishing touches and she's loking nice. I've added some nice subtle streaking, Friuls are on, I tried some oil paint dot filtering for the first time yesterday and it looked fab but I've lost most of it now! I'll be doing more with this method in the future as when done properly it looks ace - see wbills builds! She's drying off now ready for matt coat and pigments - final photos later! Ben

Hiya guys, Well, I'm pleased to announce that the 38(t) is COMPLETE! 100% COMPLETE! What a brilliant kit - a pleasure to assemble and, although I had some issues with the Friuls and cammo scheme, I'm really liking how this turned out! Some oil dot filtering was experimented with - need to try harder and will have another go at it on my Hetzer build. Lower hull weathering behind the road wheels was kept simple, just AK Earth and Dust Effects brushed on followed by a sprinkling of various pigments. Most of the streaking is AK - be it Streaking Grime of dragged oil dots Friuls were treated with AK Friul Burnishing stuff and then given a generous coat of AK track wash. I know I said I was going to use a figure - that might still be the case as the turret hatch is only held in place with poster putty underneath. I also planned on using some stowage but I don't want to do any more with her now. I'm totally happy! Thanks for everyones assistance with this build - you know who you are and you've been a MASSIVE help Every new build seems to be improving in whatever department so I'm doing something right. These are my own photos here and are definately my best yet - taken with my new camera and that excellent blue background! No more hassling my Godfather! Please let me know what you think:Thanks for looking guys - I hope you like her! I was planning to build that Stuka now but I've realised it's not that easy to just build a decent wingy model so I'm going to do my research, by the canopy masks and make that my big 'Summer' build That means I now have the choice of two kits - Tamiya's Early Marder III or Academys Early Hetzer? I can't decide - anyone got preferences? Thanks again guys, Ben
