Phil, glad to have you along! T, can't blame Dupes for this one at all. I figure I can work on the decals a little here and there at a time rather than trying to tackle them all at once so it shouldn't be too hard. He bought the kit for his wife (she's a big Star Trek fan) and after seeing the Galactica he asked if I could help him out with this one. If it hadn't come already with the 'mosaic' type of decals I probably would've turned him down to be honest.

Andy, just in time for spring! Thom, thanks for the support! Steve, will do my best not to disappoint...the thing literally will end being covered with decals...so we'll see how that goes!

Made some more progress on the Enterprise. The main drawback to the kit plastic IMHO is that it was molded in white...which made it very hard to see little flaws that needed correcting. Fortunately once painted, they all showed right up! After dealing with those minor things and doing some touch-ups with the airbrush, I did a little detail painting for the impulse engines, the main deflector dish, and the shuttle bay as called out in the instructions. Then the decal marathon got under way after a coat of Future. Almost as bad as a NASCAR build, the kit practically ends up covered in decals from top to bottom, so I started in on the top side with the saucer section and then moved my way aft. Needless to say, judicious amounts of Solvaset are essential to get all the decals to play nice with each other especially for those that have some overlap. The decals are nice and thin but also mostly larger decals so its easy to break them if you aren't careful while handling. This represents several hours of work yesterday and again today...still have the underside and the warp nacelles to do next!

It is looking AWESOME! You hit the nail on the head when you said its like NASCAR cars. When you apply decals, do you wet the surface first or just keep it dry? I use Solvaset too.

Definitely have to wet the surface first. I use tap water with a drop of liquid dish soap added to it to break the surface tension and use an old brush to 'paint' the surface with water first and then place the decal.

Superb job there Bill...cracking work on those decs fella - what size kit we lookin' at here...I know yer said it was 1/2500 but I never managed to get that close to the real one............... And here I thought you had some connections there Sir Francis! It's not a huge kit (they have a larger one at 1/1400 that is pretty good size!), this should give you an idea of the scale: Andy, my paying attention in high school Chem 101 finally pays off! Glad to be of assistance.

You paid attention? I didn't but I had a very good excuse... you wouldn't have paid attention too if you find out how beautiful my Chemistry teacher was. And she led aerobics lessons at my school too...

Thanks Bill - she's bigger than I thought TBH- an impressive lump when it's done eh? Considering it's a snap-together kit, it's got quite a bit of detail. What you don't spend on the construction time you definitely do on the decal end of things for sure, no question there! This 'quick' build is racking up some serious bench time!

Thanks Leon! Really makes me appreciate the simplicity of armor decal markings. Especially since the build before this one was the 109 with its boatload of decals too!

Lui, and Thom, appreciate the comments kind sirs! Anthony, the friend I'm building this for is a huge sci-fi fan as is his wife. He had bought this for her with the original idea of doing a 'Captain's Wall' of all the Enterprises in this scale...but I think my involvement is going only so far as this one! I don't think I could keep my sanity if I attempted to do all of them...so many decals, so little time.
