I've been away from the bench a few months. Mostly work related but a good bit of burnout too. I figured I needed a nice involved build to get my juices flowing. If you were following my Ju88 build at the old place it's in the final stages. I won't blog it but I'll have finished pics up when it's done, but since it's in the final stages I'm starting this. This project was supposed to begin yesterday, but given my stupidity, it's a little delayed. Hopefully I can get underway tonight if the soreness in my hand from stabbing myself is a little better. Kit: Tamiya Corsair 1/32 Aftermarket: Barracuda Corsair Decal Sheet, Barracuda Cockpit Stencils, Barracuda resin wheels, (will probably try and track down a Vector resin cowl ring). I will be doing the aircraft "Marine's Dream." This aircraft met it's end when it flipped over on a takeoff roll. I chose it for the combination of nose art (which is my number one love) and for the unique painting and weathering opportunities. I'll be using AK Worn Effects to do multilayer paint wear and the aircraft also has some unique field applied patchwork that I think will add lots of interest. I will not be trying to replicate the above pictured scene. It would be an awesome diorama, but it's way beyond my level of commitment on a $100 kit. Stay tuned.

Tell you one thing - these big Tamiya Corsairs aren't just sitting in peoples' stashes. These guys are getting BUILT!

That's for true. I kind of had to talk myself into this build. There's just so many of them being built. And especially with Doogs blogging his build here - he's right in line with the look I want for this one and I didn't want to seem like I'm copying...but sheesh the Corsair is just cherry and this kit has to be built if you do 1/32 props.

Thanks everyone for checking in. This one is going to be a blast. I got started on the cockpit last night. Nothing picture worthy. I just got through the first few steps doing some sub-assemblies prepped for the first sessions with the airbrush. I'm really impressed with this kit already. Engineering and fit is every bit as good as the P-51, but somehow it's just better...which is saying a lot because the Mustang kit is at the top of my best kit I've built list at the moment. I sense that will change.

Yes, I'm actually working on this one; along with trying to get the Ju-88 finished up. I am going to streamline my WIPs a lot more, so updates will be at major junctions. I've still got a few loose ends to tie up: belts, IP and hitting a couple of spots with touch-ups, but I wanted to share progress. Kit impressions....wow...right up there with the Tamiya Mustang (which to this point has been my favorite kit ever). The cockpit assembly is a little more intricate given the nature of the real thing. I'm very impressed with the engineering and glove like fit of all the components. There's a lot on the web about how awesome this kit is...it's not overblown at all. The salmon color drove me nuts for a few days, but I finally was able to mix up something acceptable....it's a little orange in the pictures compared to my eye and what I've seen from others, but I think it's acceptable. At least in TLAR terms

Looking good! The Corsair is such a fantastic kit - think my only gripe is that the gear struts are a little bit too flexible, but thats such a minor gripe.

I did see mention of that in your build. Even early on it does seem that this assembly is a little heavier than the Mystqng and Spitfire.
I may look into the G Factor legs once I get things mocked up. I'm hoping to keep enough interest on this to put some work into some sort of groundwork and would like to know it's going to hold up.

OK pass the popcorn... I'm ready. This is such a nice theater. No sticky floors Please share your salmon formula. I am ordering the -1A when it is released and have been taking notes on doogs build and will be doing the same here. Good to know about the LG. Already think of drilling them out and inserting a metal pin for some strength/rigidity.

The salmon color I made up with red, yellow, and dark brown enamels. I started with a straight up orange mix and tinted with red and brown until I was where I wanted. I really was trying to keep track of rough ratios in case I was asked but I lost track. I just mixed up a jar until I had it ballpark.
Sorry. I know that really doesn't help much.

Good news is that you won't have to fuss with the salmon primer for the -1A as Vought switched to regular ol' green zinc chromate. Trying to remember what I used for the salmon, but I think it was basically XF-4 Yellow Green + XF-7 Red + XF-2 White. Though I might have used some of Tamiya's pink in there as well.

Finished up the interior assembly. Closing up the fuselage was a breeze. Next it's moving on to the engine assembly.

The pit looks stunning. I do not have this kit but I do have the Trump -4 kit. Definitely taking notes.

Thanks gentlemen. This kit is a work of art. It's just my job not to screw it up too much. Hope everyone enjoys following half as much as I'm enjoying the build.

Holy Craplakistan! Jimmy that is so nice. When I get my -1a... can I mail you the parts for the pit and just have you build it?

Thanks kindly gentlemen. Holy Craplakistan! Jimmy that is so nice. When I get my -1a... can I mail you the parts for the pit and just have you build it? I could very likely be capable of pulling it off again. But I could also just as likely drop the whole assembly and roll over it in my office chair...I'm just full of surprises...besides...your stuff is always some of my favorite builds...I think you will do ok...but we could trade and I could send my WnW Albatross over when rigging time comes

Thanks for checking in everyone. It's been on to the engine in the limited bench time I've had the past few nights. Got everything with it's initial coats of paint and now it's time for weathering. I'm a little hung up. I REALLY want to wire this engine like it did the one on the Trupmy Jug. Problem is the wiring harness is a little more scale in size and is just too small for the drill bits I have at my disposal. Even if I had smaller bits it's really reaching the limits of my dexterity and eyesight, so while I am sick to my stomach over not wiring it...I really don't know what to do. I screwed around with some wire trying to mock something up, but it tested my patience.... Anyway, wanted to throw up a before weathering pic: (By the way...this is just held together with gravity...I just noticed things aren't lined up correctly Closing the fuselage was hassle free too. I have been informed that Marines Dream had the aluminum reinforcement plates on the seatback and that the turtledeck was fared over instead of glass, so I'm going to be adding those.
