Hey guys, I was busy looking in boxes in my stash, and i came up with this one. The Trumpeter 1/48 MiG-3 late. I started building this one more than a year ago, and put it aside due other intrests. Now one aircraft (and experience) further, i hope to finnish this one in January (very ambitius). The LaGG build is very slow and takes a lot of research, so i wanted something ''easy''. I wanted to build this model. A MiG-3 on Vnukovo airport in march 1942. This aircraft stands behind the famous MiG-3 ''red 2'' with the socalled red wingtips. The model i want to build is the lesser known ''black 12''. I like this model because of its aluminium nose. And a nice test of my Alclad paint. Here is a nice drawing of the plane So, things started with the cockpit. The kit deliverd cockpit is a bit simple to me, so i builded the cockpitframe and wires myself (the Aires cockpit was not yet availible at the time). Also the control surfaces are wrong and looks like they were made of metal. Brengun makes a control sufaces set for the ICM kit. The ICM is a bit to small, so i modefied the set to fit the trumpeter kit.

O yes deafpanzer, there will be more! Thanks for the nice comments. Funny thing is that this is the plane that has started my intrest for aircraft again. Before i started building my Lavochkin, i practice my aircraftbuilding skills on this one. Now its time to finnish this model (i hope). The fit of the model is oke, but the real challange are the flaps and the cooling inlets in the wingroots. When you want to add the flap set of Eduard, you must sand of the inner part of the wing so thin, that due sanding the plastic warped from the heat... A lot of CA glue, putty and my tweezers made it a bit better. Because i want to paint the nose in duraluminium (Alclad), the fit of the cooling inlets does not help a lot. This is a bad idea from Trumpeter to seperate this part from the wing. The last thing you want to do with your model, is to use putty on the parts you have to paint in Alclad...on a rounded surface. Deatail of the pannels is very good. But due sanding, i had to recreate the detail (again). Regards, Remco

Yeah, almost. I have to sand the last parts and scribe the detail (for the last time i hope). i think i will begin with painting the oil cooler parts under the hull with A-14 steel grey (not a metallic color). The real challange is how i did with sanding the Alclad section

oke, the putty part is (finally) done. Oh no! i forgot to build the tarp around the tail wheelbay...were is the putty (again). An intresting deail i found, that the panel between the engine and the nose a bare metal color is, just like the nose. This wil ad a nice mix of aluminium, white and blue.

Thanks guys!
I hope to paint soon. The base wil be from Valleo grey primer, followed by some parts in the black primer. Then i wil use Akan colors MK-7 white on top and ALL blue for the undersurface. Thats the major plan.

I realy want to paint this bird. It wil be a special one in my displaycase, between the AMT greys and greens.
I also had some special rockets bought from Vector resin, at my local hobby shop. Unfortunaly some (Ten!)of the rockets wings are broken of, and had to glue the parts to the rockets. The rockets were in a small plasic bag, that also was riped. Luckely i only needed six rockets from the eight that were in the bag, so i had to canabalize the two spare rockets. After a hour (and a nervous breakdown)later, all rockets are ready.

Ohh...nice stuff. I've never done a Russian fighter. I think I probably am going to have to change that someday. This is a pretty neat looking airplane. I'm not sure how I missed this one, but I really am liking it.

Haha dupes! Great to help you with it. I like the big monotone colors instead of the normal heavy camouflages on aircraft. Personaly i think its hastly repaired for the honoring to a guards unit. Also, they had one flying again.
Jimmy, great that you like it. Russian fighters are pretty cool. I advice the Zvezda Lavochkin series. Cheap and if you upgrade them, its still oke.
Regards,
Remco
