Building this one for a GB I'm hosting elsewhere. Tropical schemes really excite me for some reason...despite being some of the simpler camo schemes. I don't know why it's taken me so long to do Marseille's ride, but now is the time. There are 4 schemes in the box...not sure which I'm using yet, but it will be one of the three with 76 up the side of the fuselage. Throwing some Aires resin in there Fabric belts. I'm also using Montex masks...which I hate...but painting is always better than decals and they are workable.

I've spent most of my bench time cleaning up the resin and initial painting. Next is some washes and weathering. I've also completed the belts but will add them at the end.

Clean painting with the cast-on wires and tubes. I always have trouble controlling the paint with those.

This is the part where I tell you the white was brush painted with Tamiya as well...now you're really impressed It actually wasn't easy...well...I mean it's not hard, but lots of touch-ups

Thanks for following along gentlemen. I'm looking forward to a more straightforward build real quick before beginning my next round of madness. Love the complexity and detail of the Tamiya Corsair, but sometimes a build that doesn't require thinking is nice This one will be all about the weathering.

Need to build 80 kits per year until I'm 100 to deplete my stash. Maybe I should sell a couple.

Excellent! Just got a set of those belts myself...interested to see how they work out for you.
Montex Masks - have you had issues with them?

Montex Masks - have you had issues with them? Yes...kinda...I left some on my Ju-88 for about 5 months...they damaged the paint...they are vinyl..and you do hear stories about vinyl parts like tires causing problems over an extended period of time, so I'm guessing 5 months may be stretching it there... But that was the fourth time I used them...and until then I had no problems with them being on for a reasonable amount of time. The biggest problem with them is they are fiddly as hell. With something with multi-parts it can be a chore...but there are some ways to make it easier on yourself with forethought. In the end...they aren't the best masks I've used but the patience and frustration always pays off because painting is just better than decals. IMO

Two suggestions from my recent 109 build:
1 - Do yourself a favor a buy some HGW wet transfer stencils. I'm reasonably sure they have them for the F. They are amazing things and you will be happy.
2 - Stuff Montex and grab some Maketar masks. Believe they even do a specific set just for the F.

Where do you source the HGW and Maketar stuff from? Is there someone domestic that sales them that I've not come across?

You have to order from Maketar direct - but they're pretty fast.
There are a few small places that stock HGW domestically, but the selection always seems to lag what you can get from them directly.

I have used the wet transfer rivets and the system is sweet. They don't have an F sheet but there is a G and I gotta figure you can get what you need form that. Ordering directly from them is no problem. I wish they'd do a Corsair set by the time I start mine... if at all. Glad i saw this post. I am going to get the Maketar masks for the Corsair.

Huh - for some reason I thought it was an F/G set. But I can vouch - it's fantastic. Also, the Maketar mask set should do you well. On my B-25 I was very pleased with how they handled the cuts and masking steps.

Ok everyone. Sorry for the delays. A week and a half of the flu means not much bench time. I haven't done much more than lay in bed with any "free time" I've had, so not much progress on anything. I got the fuselage closed up some time ago. I had taken pics of the Aires set completed, but accidently formatted my card, so I'll have to get some light in there and get more, but I'll wait until everything is finished up. I'm not going to use the Aires IP. The modification to get it to fit isn't worth the advantage of it. The kit IP will be just fine when painted and is a drop in. Still need to do it up though. What I have been doing is dealing with seams and filling. To get the wings lined up I wound up with gaps on the tops and bottoms at the root...with there being a nice little step on one topside for some reason. The bottom was much worse. Strip styrene and putty Just generally messy at every seam. Lot's of clean up and leveling off and filling. Fun times. The kit give you one piece stabs, so I sliced the control surfaces off for dropping them.

Thank you, sir. I'm much better, but yeah I kinda drop off the map when I get a cold/flu. I can bear pushing myself through most anything, but those pretty much sideline me until I'm completely over it. Always a lot of dusting the bench off after...lol.

Great fix on the gaps!

Ugh...despite my silence of late, I have been working on stuff. This kit has been nothing but headaches. Nothing major (once the wings were done), just small gaps and steps and misalignment all over the place that need to be cleaned up. I've spent more time that I'd like to admit filling, sanding, refilling, scribing, sanding, filling...etc., but here we are. Primer time. Tamiya Surface Primer. Next up black basing? Though I think I'm going to do some experimenting. Stay tuned.
