Shoot, almost the middle of February - figured I'd better get blogging something for the MoM this month. Tamiya braille P-47D going straight OOB (unless I break something along the way). Using a set of markings from Tigerhead Decals - www.tigerheaddecals.com/ - for a Turkish Jug. I LOVE their national markings! Starting as usual in the cockpit - the Tamiya kit bits are really quite amazing considering their size. Pre-sealing: And what you can actually see once the fuselage halves are closed up: Not much. Ehh, it was fun painting it up anyway. Even less once the canopies are painted up and attached. More to come soon!

Hahaha...heels have been dug in since about five minutes after the last project hit the shelf. Got a few other things on the bench at the same time as this one (big surprise, huh?). Hoping to maybe get some pics of those along the way as well.
Maybe another update tonight?

Nice. If the 1/72 kit is anything like the 1/48 offering you'll enjoy it. I suspect at your pace it will be done with I hit "refresh." Any ideas on scheme?

Oh yes! OD over NG with yellow stripes...and big red turkish squares and crescents.

See...I'm dumb. I saw the thing about a Turkish bird in the original post, and by the time I scrolled down to reply that had completely escaped my mind...lol. Sorry I'll try to pay closer attention if I continue to participate in the discussion. And now I wish Tiger Head did decals in 1/32 because they've got a few cool sets.

Yeah, they sure do! They've got some great Spit and Warhawk stuff. I agree that 1/32 would be nice (heck, even 24th!). I'll post something to Ayhan and see if he'd be interested in upscaling.

A Turk Jug...now that will look cool. Pulling up a chair...shouldn't have to wait too long!

Indeed! Need to take a couple of pics...all the parts are prepped for subassembly painting. Which if I weren't on the forum, I would be doing now. Time to turn the heat on downstairs!

Finally got some time down in the basement...figured I'd better do it before the mega-storm in case we lose power. Parts prepped in subassembly format for painting: And where I'm at so far. Realized after I was done cleaning the brush that I forgot to spray the nose yellow along with the stripes. Blah. Need to mask the prop tips anyway, so I'll have to hit that later tonight. After that I'll mask off the wing stripes, mask the canopy, and it's paint time for real!

Take advantage of that warm snug basement Dupes! (by comparison to outdoors at least) Nice progress!

Hahaha...it's warm alright. The snow is up past the door handle on the walkout, so that counts as extra insulation, right?

Snow insulates very well Dupes! It's the ice dams on the roof that will ruin you day!! Nice job on the wingy!!

Knowing what you guys are going through up north with the snow...I think this summer when it reached 105+ outside I'll complain just a little less...ok...no I won't...but I feel for you all...I hope their is some relief in sight.
Things are looking real good here. I could probably build nothing but Jugs the remainder of my life and be perfectly content, so I'm probably biased.

I'd swap out 105 for the current minus 3 any day of the WEEK! If I didn't love Maine so much I'd move immediately. Winter sucks blah blah blah. I hear you about all-day Jugs - I've got more than I know what to do with. 1/72, 1/48, 1/32, and 1/24 (yep! ). May have to come up with some sort of "collection" entry sooner rather than later!

I missed this one... Til now anyway. Less weather chatty, more model buildy please. But for the record, I'm not a van of 105 or -18. 75 and 20% humidity please.

Less weather chatty, more model buildy please. Haaaaaaaaahahahhhahahaaa...let me get on it! School vacation week up here, which means half the state is down in Florida - super slow week at work. Don't make any money, but gives me a lot of time at the bench! I promise to have an update tonight. Just got a little distracted by one of the other four things on the bench for a couple of days.

I say the same thing about trading your cold for our heat...but then it hits the 30s here and I change my mind fairly quick. I'm with Marc, I'd take a constant 70 and 15%-20% humidity...but that's a dream haha

Masked the canopy using the Montex vinyl. The small forward bits are perfect...but the two larger parts for the bubble that have to conform to the curved surfaces have me a bit nervous. Adhesion level is waaaaaay less than what a comparable eduard product would be. Going to give it a bit before I spray anything, see if they stay in place.

The promised update! Prop tips and cowl got the yellow they should have gotten before. Need to mask the cowl before moving on to the neutral gray underside. Wheel wells and insides of the gear doors all got a coat of XF-4 (Tamiya's zinc chromate). How does that compare to actual ZC? Look alright? Need to throw some silly putty in there before moving on to the NG. Think I'm going to need to replace the masking on the bubbletop - the vinyl is lifting going around the edges of the complex curves. Should be a fun adventure with the canopy already glued down. More soon!

Look who got pushed back to the middle of the bench! Got a good bit done in the past couple of days - summary here. Started by re-masking the rear canopy that the Montex vinyl masks wouldn't adhere to (complex curves). Also plugged the wheel wells with silly putty before laying down the underside coat of Neutral Gray. Everything masked in prep for the olive drab top coat. Meant to take a pic of the straight OD followed by the lightened panels, but spaced it in the middle of the spray session. Going with 25% Tamiya buff added to the OD. We'll see what that gives me after the future/flat coats for remaining contrast. Feels like I may have to bump it up to more like 30 or 35 percent already. And then the moment of truth - ripping off all of the masks to reveal the yellow, NG, and OD. This part, honestly, is my favorite part of aircraft modeling. Big ball of tape turns into something awesome (hopefully)! Managed to swing 15 minutes down in the basement this morning before heading out to plow and shovel (again - big surprise, right?). Laid down a smooth coat of future which should be dry when I get home...time for decals!

See...you can only resist Jugs for so long Nice stuff. I think you're in a good spot with the fading. It should all come together when you start placing decals...hey look...this conversation again

See...you can only resist Jugs for so long It's very true...I spent a few minutes poking through the box of my 1/24 VFS monster-jug last night. Holy smokes that thing is HUUUUUUGE! I'm glad I'm actually documenting the fading ratios this time through - hopefully I can get the fading nailed down for future builds.

Good to see you're making use of your available paint windows between snow sessions Dupes! Nice work on the OD and stripes. I hear you on the masking tape "reveal"...you always hope that it's a pleasant surprise!

The 32nd one I built is dang near as much shelf space as the Ju-88...it's insane. When's the WIP? haha
