Hello. This is my first post here. This is my current project, which unfortunately has been a series of painting disasters. So far I have resisted the temptation to hit it with some thing large and heavy and have attempted to cover up some of the faults. I usually work in larger scales than this but I picked up a quantity of these quite nicely detailed little 1/45 scale Harleys and thought I would do some thing with them.
I have a small chopping board for a base. A " box " from a 1/50 scale truck. A 1/43 scale diecast Australian Ford falcon pick up. My 1/45 scale Harleys. Some 1/35 scale Diopark tools. A couple of 1/76 scale pallets and some 1/43 scale figures. I hope to blend all these varying scale components in to a diorama depicting some bikes being unloaded from a shipping container.
I cut the box open and cut the end out of it so I could build some doors and have them in an open position. I also put a wooden floor inside the container. Gave the base a coat of asphalt.
Currently working on some of the smaller details

That container is spot on Peter! I will be keeping an eye out on this dio for sure. What's the LHS like down in the South Island? Where are you situated? I still remember as a kid going to see my grandparents in Wellington, we always stopped off at the Waiouru War Museum on the way. It was the first time I saw resin figures from Verlinden...keep in mind this was back in the day when Whitcoulls used to stock Tamiya kits amongst their books! That makes me feel old now lol Good luck with the rest of the dio mate!

I patched it up but not as nice as it should have been.
Shay - I am in Dunedin. LHS. I only started with the model building in 2010 after accidently stumbling on some amazing garage dioramas on the net that inspired me. Prior to that I had never even heard the word "diorama ". In 2010 Dunedin had 2 long established model shops which are now both gone. A couple of years ago a new one started here but he only lasted 2 years before closing his doors. The best model shop in NZ is Acorn Models in Christchurch which is a big shop carrying a very good range of product. I have just returned from driving up to the very top of the country - The cape, then back down to the bottom again - 4,000 km. Found quite good model shops in Wellington, Taupo and Tauranga, so there are a couple left. Stayed clear of Auckland. Sad to see the Model shops disappearing but in the age of Online Shopping it is easy to get what we need.

The container looks great. Would like to see closeups of the Harleys Here are some close ups for you Angi. The detail is very good for the size ( 1/45 scale ). The only problem is they are plastic and with the handlebars being plastic and so thin they don't want to stay where they should be and mostly drop or go off on funny angles. I brought them on ebay a few months ago. There are 2 different sets. Each set has 8 bikes, so I have 16 different bikes.

Thanks, Peter. The bikes look very nice. And I love the sound of a harley. Every year I think about buying a bike. But it's too diffucult for the dogs to follow

Thank you John T.
I thought I would have this finished by late January. Progress is very slow. I had some really basic 1/43 figures that I have been repainting to try to improve them a little. Now have them all wearing jeans.

Peter, Sidecar, do yu mean austin - that carries a passanger attached to your bike? Sidecar or sidechair. A compartment that is attached to the side of a bike for a person to sit in. Has a wheel on the outside. Therefore the bike and sidecar become a 3 wheeled vehicle. Popular 1920's to 1950's but still some people are using today.

To work on small bikes one needs small tools. Two PE ring spanners and the others are plastic from Dioparks Factory Tools set 1/35. Halfway through painting them. Hmmm...not quite sure what the saw is for.

Nice looking set of tools. The saw is for any radical amputations after catching fingers in the chain of course!

The two spanners above the saw blade in the photo with the bike are PE and great detail but there is no thickness so they only look 2D. The other tools are plastic from Diopark Factory tools set 1/35. I like them better although not quite as much detail.

That's the secret - the tools are so realistic because of thickness (so thin!). 1/43 figures....hmm....much more variations in movement than 25th scale.

Sorry Angi it is not so easy. I have a lot of experience with bike models. I brought these Harleys from Asia on ebay. They were originally from some Japanese Harley Promotion I believe. 1/45 scale bikes are very rare. I have not seen a Triumph in 1/45. There are a few model bikes 1/43 scale but the detail is not so good. I am sure the German company Schuco produced some diecast bikes in 1/43, maybe in Germany it is possible to find but you will not find a recent Triumph in 1/43. The bike in the picture you posted is a recent Triumph Thruxton 900 made 2005 - 2008 I guess. The only easy to find models of the more recent Triumphs are in 1/18 scale and are diecast made by Welly. I have some here. I am happy to send you one as a gift but I don't have any in Yellow and not this exact model but similar. The quality of the Welly brand bikes is average - not so bad - But as I said 1/18 scale. I also have a nice earlier Triumph Bonneville 1967 model by IXO in 1/24 scale which is better detail / quality. Similar looking bike but earlier version and only available in 2 tone red/white. I can send you a picture of it if you wish. Kitset bikes are available in 1/35 but all 2nd world war military bikes. The only triumph is a WWII smaller single cylinder bike. I think 350cc.
These 1/45 Harleys I have many, if you would like one or two I am happy to send them to you as a gift. They are small and light so cheap to post. If you want one of the 1/18 scale Welly Triumphs just ask. The IXO 1967 Triumph I have a box of them so again I would be happy to send you one as a gift. But these are not the scales you asked about. I don't know if you want one as a model to look at or as a bike to include in a diorama ? If it is for a diorama then getting the correct scale is important. If you go to google then in to google images and type in Welly diecast Triumph you will see their bikes and IXO Triumph Bonneville 1/24 and you should be able to see the red/ white painted model.

Tonight a little more painting on the figures then added decals to the bottles. Really pleased with the 1/35 scale bottles.
