If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the precipitate.

Gentlemen, Dupes and I were brainstorming the other day about events to get together and build. We came up with the idea of a "modeler's retreat'. It would be a weekend of a bunch of guys, hanging out, perhaps eating a lot of junk food, maybe drinking (just a little), and building like fools. So, before we did anything else, we wanted to gauge actual interest in this idea. Here are some general characteristics: -The event would most likely be in late August to early September (I know, I know, that is right when school starts...) as a prep for the fall show season. Alternatively, Dupes also suggested a weekend late in June that may be a possibility, although that is pretty quick -The retreat would be hosted at Dupes' northern modelers paradise in Ellsworth, ME. Again, I know, I know, it is a long haul for some of us. But hey, bring the wife and kids and send them to Acadia for the weekend or to do some "coast of Maine" sightseeing. It's a win-win.... At this point, this is just a feeler, to see if there is any real interest in this. If there is, maybe one day this could become the modeling version of "Burning Man"... We'd like to hear your thoughts, questions, concerns or, of course, if you are interested.

*crickets*
As I said before, I have a feeling that the drive may put more than a few people off! Yep, I live really far away from...just about everywhere.
If we can make something work, though, it would be a ton of fun! Some of my local club guys would participate for sure.
Boyd - July 24-26 and August 28-30 are looking like the most doable target dates, although if there's some other time that looks good for people (i.e., you at this point) I'm sure we can finagle something else.

That's getting right into the season for IPMS Nats as well as the AMPS show in Danbury, CT. My answer would be a solid, "maybe" if the timing and the planetary alignments work out just right.

Damn
I would be so keen for something like this, but unfortunately the trip from South Africa is a bit more than a drive. HAHA
If it happens, be sure to take lots of pics.

I like the idea, but Missouri is long way from you. Maybe we need to consider more that one on a regional basis.

The only thing that eclipses my desire to hang out in the fabled Dupes Man Cave is the distance between me and it.

It's a great idea but I'm even further away than Jimmy...so if you do pull it off, make sure there's plenty of evidence...uh, I mean pics, to share!

Yep, I am with Bill and Jim here. Have a drink for me too and light a candle for the folks who cannot be there... That sounds so cool!

Would be fun, I'm not in S Africa but Colorado is a pretty good drive also. Would be cool to set some of these up as a Regional "Meets" I would be willing to open my Girl Cave. (That just sounds so wrong on many levels) for a Meet.

... as well as the AMPS show in Danbury, CT. John - have you ever come to that show? I guess now they call it ArmorCon, but yes. I was there for 2011-2013. I missed 2014 however. So far it looks like Steve Reid and I will be selling resin at a shared table this year. I was looking at getting up to Maine. If I rented a car in Bangor, how long is the drive to your place, considering clear weather? The big hold-up for me would be in committing several days off in a row away from family and kids. It's already a considerable stretch to get the days for two shows annually. Adding extra might well receive a presidential veto.

I attended from 2008-2011 and in 2014. So we at overlapped in '11...that was the year I won the show theme (Artillery - King Of Battle) award with my Morser Karl. Steve Reid - great guy...even better resin. What are you selling with him? I didn't realize you had a product line. Bangor - from the airport to my house is only 30 minutes!

How the hell did you lift it, much less get it 400 miles to Danbury? Huge model! I've got a very small series of resin bases and eventually, when I get off my arse and finish a few more dioramas, a line of civilian figures in 1/35. I'm rebuilding my website since the old one was not "mobile-friendly". There's still a lot of dead ends and 404 errors, but you can see my dioramas here: www.coldbasementmodels.com/?page_id=334I'm sure you'll remember at least a couple of them.

No idea you had the line of bases. Do you do the casting? Or is that Steve's job? The Morser (luckily) stayed modular so I can break it down. The base is still a 3.5' chunk of wood, but at least I can disassemble and box the kit!
