Dang, Jim - built anything that DIDN'T make it into a mag? Not recently. The F-4D was my project, but the Harrier, small Phantom and pretty much everything that will follow it were specifically for the mag. The Rafale and Jaguar are complete...working on an Airfix EE Lightning, Kitty Hawk AH-1Z, then I have a Bearcat and Eurofighter lined up....

At this point I'm assuming you're a full time magazine employee, no? Not technically...I don't think...haha, but I do have builds lined up for the foreseeable future. I'm doing builds for a Mr. Hobby monthly feature. The Bearcat is the 1/48 Hobby Boss kit. The EF-2000 is the Revell 1/48 two seater. I'm actually replacing the Zulu with the Trumpeter 1/48 F-106...that build will follow the Airfix Lighting.

Nice work, and really love the 1/72 Phantom. I build 1/72 only, so am always pleased when I can find really skilled builds at that scale to use for research and inspiration!

Not my scale really, but I very much enjoyed it. I told myself I'd try doing more 1/72 as a way to get to the painting and weathering quicker. I haven't yet, but I still may. Oh, and welcome aboard! Glad to have you and I hope to see your builds soon.

Ok, #7 is in the current issue of Model Aircraft, so I can add it now. This is the Revell 1/48 Rafale M w/bombs. This one was out of the box. The kit goes together rather well. This certainly isn't my favorite completion this year. Not because I don't like the kit or the subject, I just think I could have done much better with painting.

That's a nice Rafale! I have such mixed feelings about the aircraft...I love the lines and find it infinitely more attractive than the Eurofighter, but the overall gray does it no favors whatsoever.
I'm considering building mine as a WIF RCAF bird. Not 100% sure where Canada's at with their next-gen procurement these days, but I know as of a year or so ago they Rafale was in the running.

I completely agree with you about the grey. It really seems to take away from the look of the airplane a lot. I imagine some camo would help it a lot. Probably wouldn't look bad in the BoB commemorative camo they are putting on Typhoons.

Thanks a lot guys! Killer lineup! I've got the Hobbyboss Rafale...wonder how they compare. May have to find out. I'm kinda surprised you don't have both already...lol. I don't know anything about the Hobby Boss kit, but I can tell you this one is a pleasant build.

I always assumed this was an old and creaky tooling...sure doesn't look like it here, though!

I always assumed this was an old and creaky tooling...sure doesn't look like it here, though! It's from around 2001-03. I don't remember off the top of my head. The only real fuss with it is at the intakes but it's really not that much of an issue if you get the mating surfaces flattened out. I found a WIP of this kit where the guy had putty all over it it was clearly user error because this one comes together nicely.
