I'm planning to build this: But I have no idea what those markings on the front are? Hope one of you might be able to shed light into my darkness.

Thanks, but I somehow doubt that either the Germans, or the Russians used the word 'training' Mainly I need to know if they are German or Russian markings to make up my mind what colour to paint it (Panzergrau or 4BO)

Sorry, I should have been clearer in my question - I assumed it was known that I pretty much exclusively build vehicles in soviet service. I'm aware it's a trophy SDKfz, just don't know if it was also repainted 4BO. My train of thought is: if the markings are Russian, it's repainted, if they are German it'll still be Panzergrau. I'm leaning toward the markings being Russian. I hope I have now succeeded in removing all clarity.

Oh, a riddle, I love riddles! First, I think we see German markings here. The lower part looks like a big "K" to me, which means "Panzergruppe Kleist". The tactical sign is much more difficult, due to the angle and the low quality. The upper part could be a horizontal bar with two small circles on the outer undersides, indicating a motorized unit. The fact that it is on top and not below means "prime movers". The same sign below would mean "trucks". Now for the difficult part. What do they tow? Howitzers, guns, AT-guns, mortars? I don't have a clue! None of the weapon symbols I'm familiar with seems to fit and as I said before, the picture quality is too bad for me. Also, do I see a letter on the lower right side of the tactical sign? That would indicate the origin of the weapon in question. For example "f" for French or "t" for Czech...

I'd say it's likely still in the original Panzer Gray since the tactical markings are also intact. Looks like the MG is the only thing they've swapped out...it's still got the German radio antenna mount for example. Neat find!

Thank you very much gents! Especially Tobi and Leon. As far as German tactical markings go my ignorance knows no bounds, so I'm very grateful for such great support from this most excellent community! Here is a slightly better picture that might help narrow it down. I think it's this one about a third down the page Thanks Bill. Found the picture on this site Enough material to build nothing but trophy vehicles for years and years. Man, do I wish I could read Russian... At least now I know what colour to paint it. I will do my best to provide more riddles for your enjoyment in the future Tobi

Well, from Dirk's last photo it should be a towed howitzer unit, still haven't figured out what the inverted "S" on the right side could be.

I think the inverted 'S' might be a '2' signifying that it was the second battery?

I think the inverted 'S' might be a '2' signifying that it was the second battery? I had the same thought, but it is unusual to have it that large and also it's not a very clean "2" and too rounded on the bottom for my taste. Maybe it's an "l", indicating "light" or "long-barrel", but again it's in the wrong spot (should be left instead of right) and "leicht" should also be abbreviated "le". The tactical markings were pretty regulated.
