I know a little bit about 155 howitzers as I lived with one for 15 months. Looking at the projo's being fused up I noticed a couple things that most won't catch. The fellow with his hands ontop the round is probably pulling the supplemental charge out prior to threading the fuse in place. PD's don't use that charge.
Looking at the rounds I see a complete redesign of the older 155 mm round. The front two thirds is now a secant ogive in shape. The ballistic co-efficient will be noticeably increased. Thus adding range, but making the trajectory flatter and with less wind deflection. A good comparison would be a standard 155mm, 8", and the 175mm gun round. The rounds in the photo are closer to the old 175mm gun round. gary
