I'm looking for tips & guidance regarding the painting of ordnance, specifically bombs....most specifically the "rings".
How do you mask a tapered / curved surface?
In the pictures below, you see perfectly-painted yellow rings on the ordnance. How in the world is that done?!!?! I've tried all sorts of tape, and I can't seem to make it work...all because of the taper / curvature.
Cylindrical surfaces like missiles...that's easy. But curves & tapers? I'm lost!
Any ideas / tips / secrets would be greatly appreciated!
If it matters, I build in 1/48 as my preferred scale.
These images were found on the 'net, via Google:
How is that done??!?!

Usually these are provided as decals. Though, more times than not they are useless because they aren't sized correctly. When I do tape them I just cut strips of Tamiya masking tape. The stuff is pretty flexible in thin strips, but now they do have a tape that's supposed to be even more so. Keep in mind that if you look at pics of the real things the striping wasn't always perfect; it also wasn't always there. A bit hard to see here but these were painted and then masked.
