Hello all, The weekend was great and after visiting the big expo I brought a very cool bust home. Of course there are other projects on my bench, but most of them are almost complete ("Birds of Prey" for example) or stopped due to a spare part problem (T-34/76 > waits for Friuls). The kit Im talking about connects two major interests: Japan and - no surprise - busts. Some words about the kit itself: All parts are cast in resin. It seems there are two different kinds of resine - his head is a tick darker. I dont care, as long as the details are good, and they really really are. I talked to the salesman about the main issue of the figure: the bent katana. He offered me a solution, if this wont help he talked me to contact him again and hell take care about a spare part. Other painters state the same problem. Nothing that cant be fixed I guess - theres PE sheet, metal sheets and similar. Heres a review of the bust: www.planetfigure.com/threads/shinsengumi-wolves-of-mibu-from-dg-artwork.73228/Im looking very much forward to paint it after all steps like glueing and priming are done. As always any CC is very welcome. Cheers.

Saw your FB post... this is going to be cool! I don't see pictures here but from what I have seen earlier it is going to be one cool bust WIP. Didnt make some pictures yet except one of the primed bust. First I have to research a bit more because of the blue - there are different sources and loads of replicas. The painter of the box art has chosen a very bright blue for it. M aybe Ill replace the very delicate tissue on his head too (lead foil possibly). Its very thin and I dont dare to breathe close to it.

First steps... After priming the base with Nato Black, it was washed and highlighted wit black & dark grey tones. And the kimono got his typical blue, i.e. a mixture of several Vallejo blue tones, followed by a dark blue wash. Katana blade got some Humbrol Chrome as well.

I like what you're doing Lucas, the colors already fit together and the guy's expression shows even better after your paint job, the dark shadows around the eyes add some evilness to the face.

AG, Thank you. I reworked the face a bit, because it needed more contrast. Dennis, Dont know the figure, but it surely is a great one. Would be great to see that one too one day. I played a bit with my brushes. I have to admit that I know only little about the original characters, expecially their clothings, so Ill paint it like it is on the package. The cross patterns are really challenging. Additionally I tried some first texture highligts on the right side of his kimono (see arrows).

Thank you Leon. Looking good there mate! Anything special planned for his head band? Looks like it's breezy in your hobby area lol!! The head band is made from resin too and you have to treat it veeeeery carefully. The front part broke off and I had to fix it. Hope this wont happen again, plan B is some band(s) made from lead foil or similar. And yes, its breezy here in Saxony atm - winter is coming!

Great progress Lucas, I like the colors a lot ! Painting a texture is very difficult and you seem to succeed.

Many thanks AG. I just finished the bust after painting some more decent details on the face (highlights, beard) and the rope. Thank you all for following along.

Another nice addition to your figures/busts collection Lucas. Don't let Andy fool you...he's already plotting how to get his hands on a katana...

Indeed a great bust, you chose difficult colours, especially the white (still very difficult for me to manage). But the final result is ok and you could say now you have your personal bodyguard with katana on the desk! Happy Modelling and a fine end of the year! Nicolae
