With the Skyhawk safely tucked away it's time for the next victim. I had several kits picked out and was going to do a "You pick it" thread. That was until I picked up this one. Tamiya 1/350 I-400 class IJN sub. According to Wikipedia, with a 400' length and a 39' beam they were the largest sub of WWII and thru to the 60"s when the boomers started to be built. The reviews of the kit are plentiful but they all say the same thing. Extraordinary fit and detail. Small on parts count though. A nice PE fret is included but I added the detail up set for the railings etc. It come with an interesting guide for drilling the holes for the rail posts. Looks like they may be useful for masking at least that part of the deck too. 4 brass torpedoes too. The fit of the upper hull just needed a spreader to make it perfect. You can feel the seem at all when you run you fingers across it. It's not yet glued in the 2nd photo. 6 Seiran float plane, 2 with wings extended and 4 with folded wings. The trailing edge of the main wing is sharp enough that I believe I could cut myself. Bombs, PE props and a decal sheet just for the planes that has full markings

Holiday prep and work cutting into bench time. I had to make new bow planes. Don't ask. The level of stupidity is too painful to think about. The idea hit me in the middle of the night to sandwich a flat strip between 2 cut outs of the bow plane. Sand the edges and a nice streamlined shape. The deck was base coated with Tamiya Buff and then covered oil paint with some Japan Dryer to cut the drying time. After the was bushed out the successively cleaner stiff brushes... I used 5 but only 3 in the pic. Then I blended in some streaks of a darker brown and put aside to dry. Hanger and tower parts are just in place not attached yet. And Bill, if all that 350th PE is getting to ya... choose a kit with just 1 deck gun that gets an upgrade

ha ha Marc, glad you finally saw that.
Thanks PJ2. I think those should be left where they lie out of respect for the dead likely still on board. If was a war price and sunk... that's a different story.

Wing-nut
Just an FYI, they were NOT sunk during any action, they were scuttled to keep the Allies from sharing with the GD Russians
