my kit showed up from luck model today. I would have preferred the Meng kit but I really did not need a full interior. the takom kit uses a lot of the parts from the Mk.IV kits like wheels, tracks , and sponsons. first off the new bits. it looks like they have retooled the ill fitting sponson roof pieces. the exhaust is broken down in a way that it can be added after it is painted. and a small bit of P.E. and the sprues recycled from the Mk.IV kit.

Always good to hear that a kit maker responds to issues and fixes them or at least tries to!

Going together real well,I did the Tamiya version myself last year. What kind of tracks on this one ? the tracks are individual links that snap together, they are really nice to work with. I finished assembling it tonight. the fit of the sponsons still sucks, the only place that needed filler. The rest of the kit went together really well.

Looking good and coming together very quickly Dylan. I can answer your 'what's in the box' question: a lot less than when you first opened it

Big slab sides make a nice canvas for some preshading

Always fun to see one of these slab-sided monsters come to life. Looking forward to more on this one Dylan.

thanks Tobias. I have been informed by one of our Russian speaking members that the inscription on the side of the tank means Ambulance. this image was found on the web and is being used for illustration purposes only

Some nice work on the shading Dylan, really brings out tones in the base paint! Looking like you'll be hitting some weathering real soon!

thanks for the compliments guys. the more i look at it the more disappointed i get. here is a photo of the actual tank, when compared to the painting guide it is a completely different tank. the number written on the rear of the tank is about the only thing Takom got right. the one in the picture is a Male (cannon in the sponson), the painting guide says that it is a female (machine guns in the sponsons) the script on the wording is much smaller on the real thing than on the decal sheet, and the painting guide says to put them on the right side only. in addition the decal sheet only has one decal for the number and script. there should be 2 of each. it is to late to fix it now, and I am going to just have to live with it the way it is.

I feel your pain Dylan...sometimes knowing too much about the particulars of a vehicle can result in disappointment when it's too late to do anything about it...but it doesn't take anything away from what you've done with it! You would think that the Takom folks would've had access to the same type of info/research when coming up with the scheme and layout. Sorry to hear you found out about it at this stage vs. earlier...on the other hand, the notion of an 'ambulance' tank is intriguing to say the least!

In the past few weeks I found out the name is actually "first aid" I think a Mk.V would make the worst ambulance ride ever. you would probably be better off being draped across the back of a horse. got a little bit done.

Shame about the spanners Takom put in the works - but your work looks excellent! I often remember fondly how relaxed modelling was in the olden days: buy a kit, build it and be happy with it...

Actually, it's a bit more than that - the Takom illustration showing a machine-gun sponsoon on the right hand side is probably correct, as is the photo. Most Mk.Vs that went to Russia were "Composites" ("Hermaphrodites"), the surviving Female in Arkhangelsk is a rarity, pretty much all the surviving Mk.Vs in Russia and the Ukraine are Composites (two of these are in Luhansk and had recently been restored - I hope they haven't been damaged in the recent unpleasantness). I believe this was the case with the four Mk.Vs the Germans ran up against in Estonia in WW2 (being used as Bunkers). The two Mk.Vs shown knocked out during the fall of Berlin in 1945 (a Composite and a Female) appear to have been part of a Memorial in Smolensk, but at least one was in running condition in Berlin shortly before it's fall because a shot-down American airman recalled being paraded through the streets on top of "a turretless First World War tank". I think it's ironic the capital of the Third Reich was, at it's end, being defended not by some super-panzer but geriatric British heavy metal. As are the Berlin '45 Mk.Vs. There are quite a few shots of these as everyone and his Granny among the Allies seemed to want a Selfie with one; the same seems to be true of Germans encountering them during "Barbarossa"... So would be a model of the Chinese-crewed unarmed Tank Recovery tank on the Western Front in WWI; I'm surprised Meng haven't been all over that one!
Cheers,
M
