Question for those who have more experience build NMF aircraft. I am thinking of doing my Mig-21 in airframe aluminum then doing some of the panels in aluminum. Is this enough variation? To be honest, when looking at builds on FSM, I can barely tell the difference... but then, I am also blind as a bat.

I wouldn't use airframe aluminum personally. If you're talking about Alclad at least. That's a high shine finish and it looks polished, and I just don't think it's convincing for a service aircraft...way too polished in my opinion..much like a Warbird restoration.
I'd start with a base of Aluminum and then add variation with Duraluminium, Dark Aluminum, Magnesium, and White Aluminum. Look at lots of photos to get a sense of the variations. You cant have as little or as much as you want really.

Hmmm. I see what you mean. This is a display MIG-21PF for an in-house competition. Trying to decide on realistic or looking bad-arse! :\ Looks like I have to order some more AlClad!
