Thank you Mr. T. Question is: How to place it on the base? Straight and classic? Has something. Or a position not in line? Makes it a bit more interesting I guess. But first some sand on the basehas to be added and then its prime time for the fighter!

Prime time! With white of course. To avoid crackles in the surface of the sand - theyre unwanted here and I made some bad experiences in the past (Heinkel 162, for example), Im a bit more careful here. No thick glue/sand mix this time, but a thinner version. Takes longer to dry of course, but it should work. Fingers crossed.

Some days ago, I had some questions about the salt method. Thanks again everybody for your help there, it really worked out good. This is how I did it for the nose of the X-Wing: [1] a combination of Maskol, hairspray and salt was brought on [2] the nose got some color - its a light grey, the very same that was left from the Heinkel build, btw. [3] all rubbed off after drying [4] some sanding paper helped to get some irregular scratches. Careful here, otherwise the surface will appear again. [5] I repeated step [4] after bringing on a small amount of grey again. And there we go.

A little bit of chipping - you wish! The paint job ended in an almost catastrophe and it took a lot of mojo and time to rescue the paint job. What happened? Although the model had been primed before I was bringing on the white color, the Tamiya tape ripped off big chips in the lower area. On both sides!!! Even the old trick to minimize the adhesion of the tape by bringing it on a soft cloth several times didnt help. Again I had to tape, and again I had my fingers crossed. 2nd try didnt work too. But the 3rd did better. Its Tamiya tape btw, and its not too sticky by nature. The wings havent been painted yet, wish me luck. Besides the paint job, I added some decent washings to the sand and some decent highlights, added the exhausts, freed the cockpit from its tape (worked perfect here!) and posed the figuresm, the barrel etc... Enjoy!

Good moves Tig, you will show this one who's the boss lol ! Masking tape can be tricky, did you degrease the surface before you started airbrushing ?

That could be a point. Maybe its the plastic prepaint too - I use that Tamiya tape as often as I can, and that never happened before.

Sounds bad!! But for this it looks really well! And remember, things you do not like could be fixed in more weathering with a brush. By the way, did I tell ya I LOVE the pilot?? Great build and lots of details on it!

Many thanks, Frank. Will take a while until theres something new here - the taping of the wings isnt that easy as the side stripes.

Always sucks when the tape lifts off the paint...but it sounds like you stuck with it until you had it beat! Nice progress in the wear and tear department too Lucas. 11 days to go!

It would be a real catastrophe when you want to go for a real clean build like, lets say a brand new looking car or something. The good thing here is that you can hide some smaller areas with washings etc. Dont know if I have it complete when the movie starts. Lets see!

Okay then... maybe too much weathering?! What cant be seen here yet is something I have copied from plane modellers: panel lighting. The blue panels were washed with a very thin mix of Games Workshop Nuln Oil (= dark brown) and black. That tones the blue a bit down, and I airbrushed the centers of the blue areas with the original blue color to bring it to "life". Several techniques used, and they worked out quite good. A propos "blue": As you can see, the blue Ive chosen is different from the Revell blue. It looked a bit toyish to me, and after watching at the original pictures, I decided to give it a more dull and not so "flashy" look. Were operating in the desert, right?

Weathering looks good to me... remember I like my builds very dirty.

I think you're headed in the right direction Lucas. Star Wars stuff always has that 'gritty' look/quality to it so don't worry about the need for everything to be clean and shiny!
