Good evening! The decision has been made - the new small figure project on my bench will be the GW Tech Priest Dominus. The kit itself leaves it up to you which weapon and head you use (two options each), and of course - typical for GW figures - the weapons have to be drilled. Piece of cake. The only negative thing (because its clearly visible if you dont take care about!) is the connection of the front part of his cape. It consists of three parts and leaves big gaps. A mixture of thin CA glue and MrSurfacer helped here. Whats to say about the base? Its a small one, on which I glued some cog wheels and spare GW Adeptus Mechanicus parts. Its at this moment a sketch only - the flashes and connections will disappear later in the working progress of course. Looks very technical - and thats supposed to be it. Any suggestions? Please tell me, so I can take care about. Thanks for watching - have a nice evening! Lucas. EDIT: Oh yeah, that was fun - looking for small cog wheels, (servo) skulls, guitar strings and all the detail stuff in the stash. Bench looks messy, the vignette looks like it was supposed to be.

Hey Lucas ... For future reference -Small metal gears. I brought several different types from Aliexpress. Bags of about 50 pieces for only a few dollars and free shipping. They had many different types but not very thick. Maybe 1 mm thickness. If you have interest but can not find just ask and I will give you a link. I also brought some thicker plastic ones on ebay. Brand is Tim Holtz. There are two different sets. Mini gears 12 pieces and larger Sprocket Gears 12 pieces. The Mini gears would be perfect for use on scifi or steampunk bases. They are a couple of mm thick so nice and chunky. Tim Holtz produces craft and scrapbooking accessories. You should be able to view them on google images.

Had a look at these and they all look mighty fine. Another source of cog wheels are analog alarm clocks - I get mine from a nearby flea market and an antique shop for a few €. They have tons of cog wheels and everything inside. Plus, its great fun to open these old watches, because youll never know whats really inside.

Excellent choice Lucas! I'm amazed by how much detail got packed into the figure - really looking forward to seeing this one develop. "because youll never know whats really inside" Well, I don't want to kill the magic for you, but in all the ones I've taken apart it was always a clock-work

I especially love those tiny screws from the clockworks - just imagine screws that are 0.6mm long. Putting 100 of them in small holes was a part of the basic test for the further education @ Glashuette Original. www.glashuette-original.com/start/Unfortunately I lost mine I got from a clock shop because of my move - have to get some again.

Because size does matter... >Primed black >silver highlights >Humbrol Bronze (or is it copper?!) - No. 54 >Agrax Earthshade washing >big cog wheel: silver + Tamiya Clear Yellow + Agrax Earthshade The yellow ink over silver is something I copied from a plane modeller when he did a WW1 plane. Very simple AND convincing method for bright golden parts!

No messing around on this one! Recently picked up the Dark Sword Miniatures painting dvds - hoping to find some time over the holiday to watch all 10 or 12 (!) hours of tutelage. Maybe I'll be painting figures soon!

The airbrushed cape of the Tech Priest. I used Vallejo GameAir colors here, i. e. a mixture of middle blue, Alien Purple and a deep red (RLM 23) instead of a red only - gives much more live to the figure, I think. [Inspired by Andrey Demidov] www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100006814748111&fref=ts

Time to try out the metal colors. In this case, my choice was Vallejos Acrylic Gold. Its very thin, because its meant to be airbrushed. Of course, you can bring it on by brush too. Instead of waiting too long and bringing on two or more thin layers, I decided to leave a drop of the color on a notice paper and let it set for 2-3 minutes. The consistence of the color will be slightly thicker, and the result will be a bright golden tone. It works with silver and the other colors too of course. Most areas already got a washing and some highlights, the shoulder protections and the top armor not yet (so you can see the difference between these areas). .

Thank you AG & Leon. The Priest is nearing completion - found some time in the holidays for the little fella on the bench. Im planning to do a self made base sign for him and some other projects. Theyre gonna be printed and laminated. Pretty easy to do, but cheap and of course there are almost endless possibilities. The T-70 X-Wing will get one of these too. EDIT:That escalated quickly... Paint is on and only the badge is still missing - and because this is optional I declare this project done.

Which hobby shop do you buy your modelling steroids from mate? One minute you are casting a vote on which project to start, the next it's complete.. You have pulled off an amazing result with this figure, nice variations of colour and details that stand out a mile! Thanks also for sharing the yellow ink tip, this will come in handy. Less than a week to complete another figure..which one will it be??!!lol

LeonMany thanks. AGAbsolutely - GW made a big step ahead regarding details on their figures - so its more fun to paint them. ShayI cant believe it too. After all it was fun and I could combine the painting of some colors. Basically, I painted some parts while the others were drying. Thanks to the Vallejo quality recipe, it didnt take long (wouldnt be the case with the copper parts for example - Humbrol rally takes longer to dry!). Another figure? Okay, I continued the "Mr Galahad" figure a bit - nothing spectacular so far - but this will be another project. My shelf queen of the year (shame, shame): Where was that WIP again?!
