well since I am a sucker for a freshly minted kit, I decided to get into my 2 MK.I kits right away. the postie dropped them off earlier today. first thing you need to understand about the Takom rhomboids is that the instructions should only be used to give you an idea where the parts go. the instructions would have you glue all the middle hull pieces together by them selves. there is no way this would end up being straight. instead I chose to glue them to one of the inner sponson pieces in order to get the alignment correct. one area of trouble in the earlier MK.IV kits was the fit of the drivers cab. thankfully the MK.I kit fits much better. of course I am going to build both the male and female concurrently.

These are my favourite tanks of all time! There is a great example of one 30min drive from my house in Brussels..spectacular to see in real life! I thought this link might be of interest to you Dylan, seasons greetings! the.shadock.free.fr/Surviving_WW1_Tanks.pdf(I should note it is a PDF file!)

Off to a great start on the pair Dylan! Nice to hear you aren't having the same fit issues as with the previous build!! Keep up the good work!

A necessary evil x2 unfortunately Dylan! I see what you mean about the hull construction...sometimes I wonder if some guy with too much time on his hands in the CAD layouts decides those kinds of diagrams vs. someone who has or is actually building the kit!

right after I read your post Bill, it dawned on me that when the tracks are on you cant actually see any of the roadwheels . or the drive sprockets for that matter. I think i might leave them off the next kit i build and save myself a few hours of grief. (and drive the pedants crazy while I am at it) I got the side panels all assembled. I recommend doing one side at a time and placing it on its side with a book or something with a little weight to hold it all straight overnight.

It would be great to present these two together on a base.

Very cool. I´m building the Takom Mark V and use your way with the inner sponson. Good call.

On the whole road wheel issue, I'm sure those or there for those who might want to show a disabled/wrecked tank with a thrown track or similar...but yeah, I can definitely see where they would be a time-sink if you don't really need them to be there to support the fully assembled tracks. The pair's looking good!

A small update, the main hull bits are all attached. thankfully the photoetched parts count is fairly low on these kits. 3 exhaust deflectors on the top of the hull, there are 2 large P.E screens to go on the top of the female kit. the rest of the p.e. will not be used.

Looking good! Dealing with the wheels are not exactly my favorite part... glad that part is done for you! Now I am curious what other PE parts did it come with the kit other than the guard and screen?

what other PE parts did it come with the kit other than the guard and screen? The male kit comes with P.E parts for the chain pulleys to hoist the sponsons, and a piece for inside the sponson under the gun to depict the ammo storage. Major construction is done.
