CH (Dragon) Gruppe Fehrmann Tiger I

I know some consider it sacrilege to build the white-box Cyber Hobby Tigers but I've never been one to care much about that and prefer to acquire kits to build myself and it just so happens that I was able to acquire this one from our very own deafpanzer (Andy) and its turn has come up in the rotation for the 2016 production cycle on the bench.



This particular Tiger, F13, was part of an ad-hoc unit thrown together in early April 1945 and has an odd-ball appeal as a result of the mix-and-match nature of the turret and hull with early and late features between them as well as zim.








I'll be using the Atak resin zim set for this one along with some MK workable tracks as I'm not a big fan of the DS one-piece tracks. Stay tuned for more!

Is that the set of MKs that are referred to as "dreadful" because of individual guidehorns (or something like that)?

Trade you something for those circular-file DS tracks.

They have two separate guide horns for each link but aren't too bad IMHO. DS tracks are all yours! Just pm me your details.

Have you actually used that set before? I was so scared by one of the reviews I read somewhere I've been avoiding the set I have like the plague!

Yes I have used it on another Tiger. Takes time to build them but worth it in the end IMHO.

Hello Bill,
Now why is it considered sacrilege to build one of these kits? It's a kit. Enjoy building it. It cracks me up when I see Tiger kit 6252 going for obscene prices on Evil Bay. I bought the kit at the LHS for $36 new. After all of those obscene prices paid, Dragon re-releases it. .
Anywho! I'll be following this with much interest. For one, I know I'll learn something from you (always do) and I have this beastie in the stash….right next to #6252

Of course, the original boxing of 6252 has WAY more loot than the modern issues...but still. I can't believe that it's still fetching anything more than the current retail on Ebay?

I've always been a builder and not a collector...so the collectors should thank us builders as every time we complete one, it takes one out of circulation and shrinks the supply, therefore increasing the scarcity and demand for those that are still left.

I've built both 6252 and 6253 and enjoyed them each time. Like you, I bought them when they first came out and they sat quietly in the stash for a long time until I was ready to get to them and not because I viewed them as an investment or appreciating asset.

Collectors will still pay premium prices for it in its original, sealed, unbuilt condition. It's what they do!

Yeah, with Dragons re-releases these insain prices will be gone...although, a new Dragon kit these days doesn't come cheap either anymore (which is a bit strange with those low oil prices of latest years...)

Glad to see you do a Tiger I Bill, makes me wanna refire my stalled Tunesian Tiger build...will have to wait though. I'm in for this one!

I picked up a new 6252 kit at my local Hobby Town (five minutes from DeafPanzer) for $35.95. Took it home and inspected the kit (new release). It no longer comes with the better tracks, or a metal barrel. Can't remember if it comes with photo etch.

With the Rye Field Tiger going for about fifty dollars or less (kit 5001), and pretty much the equale. I see those outrageous prices falling like a rock. Keep in mind the RF Tiger still wants a metal barrel, but comes with what looks like Model Kasten tracks or at least a clone of them. Has a nice set of metal tow cables. I liked it so well that I bought a second one as it's a pretty nice Tiger I-IP. Either way it's better than the $79 for Dragon's new releases.

Well, in Europe even the Rye Field Tiger comes at a staggering 70+ euros...little bit cheaper but not much...50 dollars or less is much more interesting...

edit: I stand corrected...the one I was talking about comes with a full interior, so that makes it cheap indeed

I'll be keeping an eye on this one! And if you tread on 'collector's' toes in the process, so much the better! I remember the stupid prices ICM's T-35 were going for...not to mention classic cars and bikes - I wish collectors would leave my hobbies alone and buy stamps, or whatever instead.

You could try method...if not willing to start with the wheels and see some progress I start with the turret

yesterday I was up on the far north side where the rich folks live (hear that Andy<g>). Looking for a good 38T to do a kit bash with. They had more Tigers than I'd ever seen in there before! They had the late Tiger reissue from Dragon (6583 ?) at almost $80!!!!! Glad I have three or four late Tigers on the shelf just waiting for me to attack them. I' with others in the fact that the price of the newer Dragon Tigers has just gone insane. To the point that people avoid them!
