This has started as a bit of a whim but Frank and I will be doing a build off of the T-rex 1/35 dinosaur kit..a first for a build off on the forum? With all of the projects on our benches this might get us both in trouble!! The lady in question: Ready Frank? Hehehe

AHHHH! Glad you reminded me that not everybody in my house have seen the movie Jurassic World. Gonna rent it over the weekend...
Count me in of course as long as you are not planning to paint it purple and call it Barney, right?

Sure Shay! And ya know, IT IS A BOY!! Have thought about the build so far. I think, I will do him out of the box (ok, what to superdetail, maybe a tongue? Replacement teeth?), but I do not use the base and make a new one. Jungle possibly. Love the Parasaurolophus Bones added. Maybe the plants could be used, too, but I have tons of other stuff lying around, so the gardenwork should provide no problems. Will we do it here, in one thread?

Frank Hey Frank,I might build mine outside of the box too..he's too big to build inside of it hahaha!! I'm going to ditch the base from the dio it's nasty..speaking of which should we leave it here or ask to get it put under the dio section?

I think, it is no diormaa, maybe a "pimped base". I will doing highly detailing on it but leaving the dimensions small. Have a cool idea for an add on, but psssst! Would be a surprise. If it would not work, I will tell at the end of the build.
Sorry, Deaf, I have a purple painting scheme ranging high on my list, harhar, I think, it would look more than cool!

First bench time in a week..got started on the basic assembly! Everything fits well and tight except for the jaw line/ head area, this will need some filling but quite happy with the detail and ease of this kit. 1:1 scale work at the old house tomorrow and hopefully some filling and primeing. Looks like the teeth will need replacing, where can you find aftermarket dinosaur dentures these days??hahaha Added a 1/35 figure next to the Rex to give a scope of how big the scale is.

T think doing a "colourfull" Dinosaur will be a funny thing instead of the grey or green versions flogging around. But I have some idea problems. First I wanted to do an "lifelike" appearence, the way a T-Rex could have lived. I sam JURASSIC PARK lastly again and there is a cool scene in which the T-Rex picks up the attorney from the WC as a in-between snack. Which brings me to the end of the movie fighting him against the Volociraptors. Could be interesting, too, creating an action sequence. And lasty, I have the game DINO CRISIS III in mind, where a T-Rex is attacked by a pack of gigantic worms (a simillar scene is an a book from the remake of KING KONG, where a V-Rex is struggling with gigantic worms in an production painting. So many ideas and not knowing which one could be the best is a pain in the...

I forgot about that scene! Sure is some inspirational material for whatever direction we choose to go, thanks for sharing Lucas! Sounds like you have ideas galore Frank!! Speaking of worms they just discovered snake sized ones, read up on it earlier today. Not too sure which direction I'll choose for the base..too many funny and bad ideas hahaha!! I got all of my filling done yesterday and left everything to cure over night. Fired up my new airbrush and started getting my base coats on..looks even bigger now!

What is the english word for "Regenwurm"? In Australia, they have giant sized creatures from this species, weird and wicked!
I really have no idea till now where to go with the T-Rex. I can imagine sculpting a cadaver of a killed beast as prey for the T-Rex. Hell, where to go???

Shay I think I need to retract my comment about the T-Rex being huge given the size of that Brachiosaurus (??) - I think 'Moderately large' is now more appropriate for the T-Rex!! I also think HUMONGOUS** is a better word than huge for the Brachiosaurus!!!! And Leon is right - the base coat is looking very nice indeed!! Keep up the good work!! Andrew **My wife's favourite word for something big.

I would go for the Triceratops and the Parasaurolophus from Tamiya. Both are excellent too! The Brachiosaurus is way too big for my possiblieties here, I would like to have a good ole Brontosaurus as the big one. And for other Dinosaurs, hell, there are so many cool creatures, like a Liopleurodon (Sea Dino) or the Duncleosteus (a real Monsterfish), Nothosaurus, Dimetrodon, Stegosaurus and mucho more. Damnit, I have now more interest in this theme than before. Shay, I should give you a KICK! in the butt!!!

Remember this? The magazine you sent to me a little while ago actually had a feature about the Tamiya dinosaurs, it was the first time I knew they existed! I'm keen to see what your plans are for this build! Guy, Leon, Andy and Bill thanks for checking in on our build..oh, and you too Andrew it's been a while since I have heard humongous used in a sentence!!(which part of NZ is your wife from?) Cheers, Shay

Ah, yes, the good ole AFM! And yes, I remember the article about the Tamiya Diorama kits, indeed! Tamiya did three dinos before this series, and they were, gulp, very poor: a Triceratops, a Stegosaurus and a T-Rex. But more based on the elder illustrations of the beasts (like the ones from palaeoartist Spinar Burian, on of the best dino painters of all time, old fashioned but dreams of my childhood). As the old KING KONG movie is (the one from 1933).
I will see where to go, think I will find the time to start next week. Just wondering when I can do all the other stuff... Want to finish my CTHULHU DUCK (Bust GB), the female dragon trainer (which hovers in an in-between status), the T-Rex and I have to think about the SW GB. Maybe with something to sculpt or scratch. Only thing I know is "Time will tell!"
