February first! I've been trying to resist the allure of the MSC Star Wars GB all month...finally get to crack into some styrene. Believe you'll be seeing a lot of SW stuff from me this year. Starting off with the Bandai FO Trooper. This was a surprise Christmas present from my bro-in-law. Not sure where he tracked it down (since Bandai kits are like Cuban cigars in the U.S.), but I'll take it! Awful lot of parts in here for a 1/12 figure, no?

It sure is a lot of parts - but at your average build-speed you'll probably be done my tomorrow evening morning

If you thought that kit for the figure had a lot of parts you should see the Bandai speeder bike and scout..I was going to build that for the GB until I opened the box!! Bookmarking this one Dupes!

I'd like to see that - 1/12 isn't really my "thing", but now that Bandai has gone crazy with all kinds of releases I'm sure I'll adapt! Hahaha.

Yeah, me too. Shays description sounds promising I guess. And your pic of the parts of "only" a Stormtrooper, hell, this could be a real fest!

Started in on this guy last night. All I can say is "wow", because this kit is pretty amazing! You could get away without using glue at all if you were so inclined. I glued all the internal bits just to give it some structure, but the exterior pieces I left press-fit A) in case I need to pop anything off later and B) because the armor is supposed to come in pieces, so no worries about filling seams! With careful cleanup one could totally get away with not painting the parts that are supposed to be black and white. Going to pose some issues with applying decals and weathering, but maybe appropriate flat/gloss clear coats could provide proper "tooth"?

Great start Dupes! I didn't get any extra time to open the scout/bike box for photos. Time permitting I hope to do it tonight!

I wondered about this when I saw the sprues. Given that a stormtrooper is covered in bare plastic panels.....why should we bother to paint the figure at all.
You could add that orange colored shoulder thingy we saw in the early movies.

Way cool! This figure looks very interesting and the assembling mode is, well, promising! Could it be possible to alter this Stormtrooper to a "Sandtrooper" from Tatooine, with all the extras? Any Dewbacks around here, hehe! So I would love to see them in 54mm... YEAH!

You could add that orange colored shoulder thingy we saw in the early movies. Think one of the FO troopers in the opening scene of FA had a red one on, no?

Sorry not the best quality pics Dupes, but at least you can get an idea of the work that would be involved!

That's interesting...the parts breakdown is substantially different between the Biker Scout and FO Trooper. Still an awful lot of parts, especially once you tack on the speeder bike!

Didn't get a TON of time last night, but still plugging away and making progress. This kit continues to impress me with the fantastic engineering. Every major sprue attachment point is on a part of the piece that's not seen once assembled. Pretty neat idea, eh Dragon ?

Woah, this trooper is still rocking! How great it is engineered. All I can say is, that modelbuilding has come a looooong way till the beginnings. Hell!
Frank
PS. Thanks for the link! Maybe I will do a Sandtrooper in 1.35 sometime.

Damn, I didn't realise that these kits were that good! I hope the pics were sufficient enough Dupes (& Frank)! I'm at home tomorrow so I don't mind taking better shots of the kit. Looking great so far Dupes, makes me want to get started on mine also..waaay too much stuff on my bench now!lol

All of the new Bandai stuff is pretty impressive both in detail, fit, and overall engineering. This one looks pretty impressive right out of the box!

Could it be possible to alter this Stormtrooper to a "Sandtrooper" from Tatooine, with all the extras? Any Dewbacks around here, hehe! Frank - looks like I gave you some bad info the other day. No reason to start with a Stormtrooper and convert if you can just buy the Sandtrooper kit! www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-12-Sand-Trooper/dp/B00YGEKJZ2Didn't know this existed until I came across it by accident yesterday.

Nice work on this so far Dupes, although I have to say I'm a little disappointed that it's not yet finished! Are you coming down with something? Sorry man! Had my model club meeting on Wednesday night which put the brakes on this a bit. Made some progress this morning, though, and hope to near completion by tomorrow (assuming I get done plowing and shoveling fairly soon).

So here's the trooper as of right now - construction just about complete. Need to make up my mind if he's going to be a melee-trooper vs a rifle-trooper so I can pick out the right set of hands then I can move forward. More to come!

I'm really liking this figure!
Three and a half questions:
Do the joints articulate? If so, how much?
From where did you order this one? Would you use them again?
