Nice work on this so far Dupes, although I have to say I'm a little disappointed that it's not yet finished! Are you coming down with something? Sorry man! Had my model club meeting on Wednesday night which put the brakes on this a bit. Made some progress this morning, though, and hope to near completion by tomorrow (assuming I get done plowing and shoveling fairly soon). That sounds a pretty poor excuse to me! After all could you not have worked on him at the club night? It is looking very nice though and sounded like a very easy build! Out of interest what are the club evenings like (accepting we're on opposite sides of the Atlantic)? I take a lot of it is about exchanging ideas, hints and tips? Do you get much actual modelling done? There's one in my home town and I've often thought about going along for a taster session. Thanks as always for sharing! Andrew s

I'm really liking this figure! Three and a half questions: Do the joints articulate? If so, how much? From where did you order this one? Would you use them again? Indeed they do articulate! Quite a bit, too. I'm playing around to see if there's a way to put him into a kneeling/shooting position...Not quite sure if it will work. It's just a range-of-motion limitation as there are so many axes of movement you can bend him pretty much any way you want. Your ordering options are EBay (mostly from Japan) or Amazon. There ARE some domestic sellers on Amazon that allow you to get one in two days (vs a month) for only a few bucks more. Best part? These kits are cheaaaaaaap!

Our "official" monthly IPMS meetings generally involve very little building...mostly showing off what you built that month, talking techniques, or planning club events. That being said, we do meet a couple of other nights each month that involve 3-4 solid hours of nothing BUT building! Highly productive (and a source of many of my shelf queens, hahaha).

1st.... Liking the look of this... And I am not a sci-fi guy.
But I am a Star Wars guy.
So... Not being a sci-fi guy, I seem to recall hearing that new, very nice new tool SW kits were released but pulled in the States due to Disney/licensing/money. The same old game. What kits are they? Figured you'd know Marc.

Watching this with interest. I brought one from my favourite Japanese ebay seller a few months ago. I am not a Star Wars expert - mine is a different kit. 1/12 Bandai but Stormtrooper. Not first order ? , Different helmet and shoulder panels. I was planning to do some weathering on mine when I build it, so interested to see what you do. Yours is looking great so far.

Dupes
Thanks for the info. the club I was looking at isn't an IPMS one but we do have one not too far away, so I might give them a try out.
Keep the good work!

So... Not being a sci-fi guy, I seem to recall hearing that new, very nice new tool SW kits were released but pulled in the States due to Disney/licensing/money. The same old game. What kits are they? Figured you'd know Marc. Indeed I do sir! It's these Bandai kits. They were available here and for export directly from Japanese retailers (like HLJ) for something like 2 or 3 months before either Disney or Revell clamped down on the licensing. Revell has the North American license, Bandai does not...so despite the fact that these kits are leaps and bounds above the Revell kits, that's what you get to buy here. That being said, if you like to use Ebay or Amazon, you can still get them. Just look for "Bandai Star Wars" and you're guaranteed to get a new-tooled kit. Their new releases are quite impressive. These figures are even better than I thought they could be (see above!) and the fighters are great AND in consistent scale with each other - something Revell fails horribly at.

Thanks buddy. My wife works for a Japanese company and after 20 years they send you to Tokyo for 1 week covering all expenses. She was due to go this year but it coincide with something else. If Bandai doesn't';t get it sorted out she'll just have to find a hobby shop for me

That's cool that they provide the option of the blaster or baton, tough choice!

Alrighty. My mind was made up as I was assembling the hands. You have fists for either side, or a "trigger finger" hand for either side (made to fit the blaster rifle). You're supposed to use the TF hand for the baton, but it looks a little weird since it appears that he's trying to grip a rifle rather than a baton handle. SO, I went with a custom combo - blaster rifle and shield! The decals are on - that was probably the first somewhat disappointing part of the kit. They didn't fit well (I actually ended up going with the stickers in a couple of cases) and tore very easily. They're pretty minor, so nobody will miss the ones that aren't there. Started working on the base - more to come!

They are the most complained about part of any Bandai kit. Good save though and super fast as usual

Is there any paint in that last photo? Or is it all just plastic O.O.T.B.?

Thanks man! I'm getting there. So while watching some superbowl pre-game I violated my "no new kits" rule and cracked into a Fine Molds TIE Interceptor. Hey, at least it's more SW, right?

I like the combo choice, best of both worlds! As for the TIE, well you can be forgiven for falling under the influence of the dark side...

Well done Dupes, I like the shield, good choice ! Will you make a small base for this guy ? Can't wait to see that.

Updated pic coming shortly (of both the Trooper and the TIE, hahaha). I AM working on a base. Was hoping to add some vertical elements, but switching to 1/12 is causing me some issues...nothing I have translates very well to that big. Probably going to resort to a sandy/rocky type thing and weather to match.

So here's last night's bench - need to start painting bits of the Interceptor so I can close up the fuselage, and I'll be done with that quickly enough that I figured I'd just wait and wash/weather both builds together. Tag team!

Man, I've been getting bogged down with all kinds of stuff lately. Progress update on the TIE Interceptor, anyway! I'm finding that you can see almost nothing in the cockpit without a magnifying glass and a flashlight...will remember that for the next one I do. In this group shot here you can see I moved on to painting and weathering already...kind of got on a roll and stopped taking pics. Started weathering the FO Trooper at the same time. Need to start working on his base more.
