Greetings everyone. Just started this kit a couple weeks ago. Got a few after market items for it from Atak Zimmerit, Aber photoetch sets. Been making some of the changes so it is a true mid production tank. Hope this is the correct size of a picture. Dan

Open the driver's visor and also added the 5 round stakes in the piece in front of the drivers visor.

I also decided since I had this laying around was to open the engine compartment and shoe horn this in.

Still waiting on the Aber photo etch side fenders and front fenders. Started by cutting them off the model. added 0.10" plastic card stock to the bottom to get rid of step after cutting side fenders off.

Thanks Leon, After starting this little kitty and comparing it to a 1/35 scale Tiger I, the 1/35 ones look so small. Wish they would actually make these just for static display instead of having to take the time to get rid of everything for RC.
Got a question for everyone. Looking at opening up the driver's hatch and was wondering if anyone has come across a measurement on the wall that was behind the seat?

hey everyone not much of a update but started working on the engine compartment. I think I can finally put away the plastic torch finally. The only thing left to cut off is the front fenders when I get the ABER front fender set here. I am still debating on opening up the driver and radio hatches. Here is a picture of the Verlinden resin floor piece. I hate sanding resin.

Looks good! Sorry, I can't help you with the wall measurements - my knowledge of German armour is nigh on non-existent. I reckon Bill or Bob are the ones to ask. Yeah, sanding resin is not one of life's pleasures. It's not that the 1/35 Tiger is small, it's the 1/16 version that's big Karma + 1 for the cute avatar.

I hear you on sanding the resin! I did a complete resin interior for a M113.

I have been jumping around doing a little here and there. Need everyone opinion on this. On the exhaust I tried to get the rough cast look. Not sure if it will show up really good in the picture. I also started on the photo etch by replacing the lifting point with brass one.

Started on the sprocket wheel hub change out. The kit represents the early style. I got a set of Schumo mid/late hubs. The early style one is on the left and the Schumo is on the right. Haven't glued it in place and set have lots of clean up on the sprockets to do.

slowly skipping around on this beast. I used the brass template's that Aber had in the kit to make the gear box cover's. Please if this isn't the correct term for these please let me know. I have it just sitting on the kit and it just doesn't look right. I drilled the 2 different size of holes before glue together the pieces and not sure why but if a person uses a punch set and makes a nut and drills a hole in the center of it for the bolt (piece of small round stock) shouldn't need the smaller hole drilled. My question is to me the shape just doesn't look right. Here is a link to another site that someone took a picture of it in post #75 www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234937702-hobby-boss-116-tiger-1/page-4

just a couple pictures. Seen a picture where it looked like the exhaust covers had raised numbers on them so out came the scrap Archer decals. Still need to work on the drive cover. Will have to make another one and cut down the slope a little more. Did play with making nuts for the part.

I'm nearing the end of my build with this very kit. It's a good kit but there's loads of changes to be made to it and i see you've addressed some of the ones i did at the early stages. Good work so far mate! I had a similar problem with the transmission covers on the front hull too but i'm kind of getting around it by adding a spare track link holder on the front hull so one really won't see the covers when i install the spare tracks. There are several other problems i encountered but i got around most of them. The spare track links for the hull are totally wrong as the kit parts have them upside down, Schumo do a great upgrade here for the holders and they also do a brilliant upgrade for the tow cable brackets and holders for the gun cleaning rods. Aber do a good cleaning rod kit too. There is an issue with the shape of the engine deck grills, their not quite right on the kit but not really that noticeable to be honest. One guy on another forum actually makes resin parts to correct this but i suppose it's down to how extreme you want to go. The engine deck grill on the radio operators side has a moulding underneath for an RC speaker, remove it before you seal the upper and lower halves of the hull, i never noticed it until after the hull had been sealed together but it's easily hidden. The tow cable on the left hand side of the hull is wrong, they give you the early Tiger type, easily corrected though. You'll encounter problems behind the gun mantlet, there's a big gap that needs filled there once you put the main gun and turret together. Also if like me you decide to use the clamping kit to mount the turret to the hull, just make sure the screws aren't too tight as the turret might foul some of the deck components. It is a good idea though as the turret sits nice and true on the hull. If there's anything else i'll let you know buddy. My blog is under "Big Tiger" and i'll have some updates in the next few days hopefully. All the best Stuart.
