Started putting this together as part of another Farcebook GB, More importantly to me it will also be an 'Honour Build' dedicated to my Gramps who drove one in the later part of the war after his unit was refitted from Humber Mk IVs. He served in Italy from mid '43 as part of 44 Recce Regiment, attached to 56th 'London' Division AKA "The Black Cats" My research material other than google..... The kit is from Milicast and made from resin, a new departure for me, and is from their easier Battlefield Range designed for wargamers, so very few parts to assemble.... Construction of basic kit completed..... Detailing started, Tyre chain boxes added in Evergreen, lids made from lead foil with strength ribs embossed in before gluing to the boxes..... Some more details added, still a long way to go..... This is where I'm at so far, the wife is off out on the pop in a minute so might get a couple more hours on it tonight ATB Sean

Low parts count means it doesn't take long to get it together, should be a fun project to detail and finish.

Hi mate
Sincere apologies but I somehow missed the start of this.
It's looking very nice and as usual your additions are brilliantly done, I really love the little canopy over the driver's position.
For the primer and undercoat, did you do grey on black or black on grey?
Thanks as always for sharing.

For the primer and undercoat, did you do grey on black or black on grey? Thanks as always for sharing. Andrew Glad you could catch up bud, The canopy, so my gramps told me, was a fairly common addition by drivers and bow gunners as, apparently, the rain used to poor through the roof periscopes' not only that but the sun in Italy is quite bright so it acted as a good visor as well, apparently the driver actually needs to see to be able to navigate around the road systems, a fact that I wish driving instructors in Bristol would pass on to the retards that drive around there on a daily basis!! Thats not actually black, its very dark brown, I prefer it to black when I do brown or dark yellow base coats, I do use black but only when doing OD or SCC15. In both cases I spray the black or brown on, then when dry I fill in the centres of the panels with very thin white, working from the outside in to the middle to give the fade from grey to white. On smaller panels I just point the brush at the middle and then just let the over spray take care of the fade as the paint builds up in the middle. Its also important on large panels not to just fill in the middle with light undercoat, it gives more variety to the base colour shade if you vary how dark or light it is in patches. All the small detail and sharp edges are hand painted with a brush and pure white to enhance the stark contrast of the edge. Hope that helps a little Sean

Nice start. On the last few pictures, is it an optical illusion, or is there a slight warp to the barrel?

Nice start. On the last few pictures, is it an optical illusion, or is there a slight warp to the barrel? Sadly no illusion, the barrel does droop a little along its length, one of the down sides of these resin kits. Trouble is its way to thin to drill along and fit a wire bracer thats strong enough to over come the droop, the bigger artillery barrels have the wire cast into them to prevent this droop from happening. I did consider fitting an evergreen rod instead but there is a chance that would do the same over time as well, so just went with the resin one in the end.

"a fact that I wish driving instructors in Bristol would pass on to the retards that drive around there on a daily basis!!" Now I know why 'Bristols' is slang for mammaries If it makes you feel any better - in over 30 years of riding bikes I have seen more than my fair share of four-wheeled lunacy. One of the more shocking episodes was the reply I got after I confronted a driver about pulling out on me: "I saw you, but didn't think you were there"

Hi mate
That really is a great job and you've done your gramps proud!!
Thanks also for the lesson on shading with the spray - very informative as always - and sorry for mistaking the colours. We have privacy filters on our screens at work and they sometimes screw with the colours a bit.
As for painting the decals by hand - outstanding!! I know I couldn't do it!!
On that note I have a a fairly sizeable stash of 1/72-76 decals - Aleran, PSC, Skytrex and even a few Armourfast - if you need any in the future.
The Aleran ones are definitely 1/76 size and I have a reasonably wide selection. PSC's are very hit and miss on size - the tactical markings compare nicely to Aleran but I reckon their 11th AD sign is closer to 1/48 or even 1/35! The Skytrex are probably the best at least for my needs - it's just a shame I found them after splashing out on the Aleran and especially PSCs.
If you're interested I'll PM you with the full list of what I have. It's about time I gave something back to you after all the help you've given me!!
Thanks as always for sharing such great work!
Andrew
PS I see you've discovered flickr. How did you find it? I personally think it's a vast improvement over PB.

PS I see you've discovered flickr. How did you find it? I personally think it's a vast improvement over PB. Not sure yet bud, first time try with it. Took I nearly an hour and a half to figure out the workings of it, but first impressions are its faster than PB in most respects. The only reason I've gone with it is I maxed out my free PB usage, and saw your comments regards it so signed up. I did sign up to dropbox aswell and I've yet to figure that out, I should add my technical ability with a computer amounts to " if you cant drive a descent sized nail in with it, I have scant need of it!!" But needs must, so I've learnt the basics.... Thanks for the offer on the decals, I'll get back to you on that one.

Perhaps this is one area where I can help you out - whilst I don't have any formal IT qualifications, I've happily stripped down and upgraded my old PC several times and am quite happy tinkering around when trying work what gone wrong with the various machines in my house!! I think it took me 15 minutes to work out the basics with flikr I'll PM the list through anyway, so you have if for future reference.
