Hahaha, you wait until someone forms a committee or the unions gets involved, that efficiency will go to hell in a hand basket most riky tic I can assure you!! I think it best I don't comment on unions other than to say they made my late father's life a total nightmare..... As for Zim - a very nice job!!! I take it you just press the tip into the pastic and hey presto!! Out of interest what wattage is your soldering iron? I remember you saying previously it was 'low' but how 'low'? Thanks as always for sharing!! Andrew Its actually a cheap variable one from Maplins I use now, £20 if I remember correctly, I bought it as the tips are easy to change and get new ones for, enabling me to have several tips for different things/sizes, I did this on about half wattage on its dial, quite what that equates to god alone knows.... The important bit is to give it all a file and sand to flatten it off then give it a scrub with a stiff tooth brush to get rid of any dust and debris, then paint the lot in liquid cement, that smooths and rounds over the edges and blends it all together, otherwise it all looks a bit to sharp and harsh. As you can see its dead easy to add damage to it by missing out areas, just make sure you don't paint them with liquid glue as it can damage the flat surface. Give it a go, you'd be surprised how easy it is, and it still means you can glue plastic on without the need to start using super glue. I should of mentioned in my post above the tip is filed to a width of about 1mm wide as you have to take into account they the melted plastic expands away from the hot tip making the groove slightly bigger. Sean, that's some great zim you dressed this Panther with. The stretched triangular side plates were, usually, covered with zim too, what will you do ? Or are there reference photos showing Panther this fashion ? Btw no big deal, it looks mighty fine already.

I'm going to get all the missed areas when I do the hull rear bulkhead as there are some areas where the glue has melted the plastic a bit flat, I'll probably do these on a lower heat and etch rather than melt the zim into the plastic as some of the areas are quite restricted.... wouldn't do to go melting the storage bins while I try to add zim to the areas between the bin and the hull side now would it?!

Hi Sean That's really looking very nice indeed!! Any idea how long it took you do in total? Andrew Roughly around 1.5 hours so far, by the time I've done the rear about 2 hours all in.... The real beauty is I can still glue plastic on plastic with this method so scratch building the gear racks on the hull sides etc. will be a cinch Sean

Brilliant work on the zimmerit... must be nerve racking to make them look right at that tiny scale! Cheers mate, its not that bad, if you cock up using the technique I use its easy to correct.... Just paint it with liquid cement to act like a flux and then smooth it all back with the flat of the soldering iron, leave to cure over night then go at it again. The hardest part is trying to keep the lines upright and at the same time running parallel to the last row, that's the bit that makes you go cross eyed!

Paint, paint, paint!!! I am doing the war dancing for you now... There are now several mental images going around in my swede.... One of which is you, naked, holding a spear, jumping up and down on the spot.... I'm just off to get a screw driver to poke out my minds eye with....
