A7V Meng Build

Greetings,
I thought I would show my work on Meng's A7V tank in 1/35th scale. I am not sure which A7V I will be building, but it will be one with Krupp armor plates as this is the only option available.  My modeling and painting skills are not the greatest but I get better with each build, so beware this is not up to the standards of most of the modelers here. I will eventually put this into a diorama. I will continue to post pictures as progress continues.

I have decided to try and replicate the A7V Tank No. 543. This tank had three names Bulle, Prinz Adalbert and Adalbert. The tank had a few modifications such as the steps below the door were removed and additional vision slits cut beside the machine gun aperatues (Front Left, rear left and right). I will try and replicate these changes. My current progress has been posted below.

They are in there just waiting for the order to advance.  I read once that they had to put around 40 men (not sure if that is the exact number) into the tank during a rescue mission, now that is crowded!  I have an A7V Kit with the motor, when I build it I am going to do a side open to show the interior, and I think it will also try to include a full crew minus the open side.

I primed the beast last night and hope to due some painting once I do some research on the paint scheme used. Hopefully I will begin in a day or two. Thanks for watching my progress.

Don't worry about "skills" none of us are a "master builder" on the very first model we build. But to me that is the beauty of modeling, the more you build the more techniques and knowledge you build and that enhances our skills. Great start. If I may, I noticed it looks as though you are using a paint brush for all of your painting. I would suggest an airbrush. Modeling really became very enjoyable for me once I bought one. But stick with it and have fun.

Here are some more progress pictures.  The paints that I am using are Mig Ammo German Tank WWI colors. I am not to sure about the colors, but I am going to stick with them.  The texture under the paint in different places is chipping fluid.  I might add some more patches of color to the camo scheme, but not sure on that yet.  Any constructive criticisms?

Freaking cool! Saw a replica at the tank museum in Germany... that thing was HUGE!!! No wonder it could crawl at very slow pace...

Here are some new updates I thought I would post. There is a lot of work still to do but it is coming along slowly. The crosses are painted with paint masking but I haven't touched them up yet so that is the reason for the small mistakes visible in this update. Also, I need to add the name to the front of the tank, which will be in the next update. Thanks for viewing.

Thanks, You are lucky man I would love to see that one or the one in Australia, but sadly I probably never will.

What did you use for the masking on the crosses out of curiosity?

I bought the A7V masking set from DN Models. I like them a lot better than decals, though it is going to take a little time for me perfect using them.
