Hey all, I hope everyone is having a nice weekend! I have a question regarding AK's streaking effects. I have finished major build of my M-ATV and I have laid down the base coat from AK's OIF & OEF set. I then put a coat of Future down. My questions is two fold, one should I put decals down and another coat of future before filters, washes and steaks or should I streak filter etc then do decals. My second question is what is the technique for using AK's streaking effects as I have never used them before.
Thanks everyone!

Hello Adam! I will jump in here and mind you there may be other processes that others would take but here is my take.... I would lay down the decs now, that you had the coat of future down. Then seal the decs with more future and let dry. Now you will be ready for the weathering using the AK filter, washes and/or streaking whatevers..LOL! As for use of the streaking effects, there are many applications. But I can try and dig up a couple links to show you. This is easier to pick up by seeing that reading. Edit: I was able to find the blog on Streaking effects. This article is by AK Interactive's, Iain Hamilton. Iain is a member here and is always helpful when it come to questions about AK weathering product...but I think this Blob spot will show all you need. ak-interactive.blogspot.com/2010/12/weathering-techniques-rusty-m41-vietnam.htmlThis is a practice thing. The more you do it, the better you get! Patience. Looking forward to seeing your progress! Good luck!!

Hey guys, Thank you so much for the help! The M-ATV does not have very many decals, not on the main body at least. There are some on the doors but I'll get to those later. here are a few pics of my first real attempt at weathering. What do you think? Thanks again for the help!

Off to a great start! Remember with the AK stuff there is a couple of cool things....one....Layers!!! Don't be afraid to add light layers after layers, slowly building up the desired amount. Two....with a hint of dry pigments in the "sand" range mixed with Streaking effects you can build up the dirt into the nooks and crannies and this will come alive...third... If you go too much, a little white spirits and you can easily remove what you have done and take control again!!
I really like the looks of this kit...I may have to pick one up!!! Keep it going!!!

Hey, thanks TRM!!! I hadn't thought of layering the streaking effects! I will have to try that out. I don't have any pigs just yet, waiting until next week and then I may try and order some... Anyways, my question is can I use pastel chalks as part of the dirt build up look?
Thanks!!!

You sure can. Some react a bit different than the commercial pigments but the end result should be about the same.

Well I bit the bullet last night and ordered more AK products. Hahaha. I have Dust Effects, streaking rust, chipping fluid already on its way. But last night I ordered a bottle of white spirits, Dark earth pigment, and the heavy mud set (the one that includes plaster) I am sooo excited! Haha. The only thing I forgot to get was a DVD. I guess now I have an excuss to order more stuff.

That is what I am talking about Adam!!! LOL...good call!!! You will love it. The vid is great but I think you can ap[ply more $$$$ to the stash!!! A lot of the effect can be used in more ways than suggested....Streaking grimes, in fact all of the Streaking stuff, if you leave unmixed or only mix up a little...I use them for pin washes adn even filters if you dilute with the white spirits!!!! On and on and....
Enjoy!!! ;D

Well I guess Tommy has covered everything here. All I can say is I like the looks of what you've already done. You'll get addicted to the AK stuff.

Hey Scratch, I think you mis-spoke when you said I "will" get addicted to the stuff... I already "am" addicted!!! hahahaha. It all started with the first product I bought! I love the way the base coat laid down, I hope AK can start producing more base coat colors!
