My next victim was going to be Miniart's Bantam loaded down with PE, but I'm waiting for some ref material for that and you know what they say about the devil and idle hands. Managed to score this for a very reasonable 21.50€ plus postage. Unfortunately, you don't quite get what you see: unlike the coverart, the kit is what might be called a 'paper panzer' in that it represents the planned twin MG setup, which was dropped due to the already cramped conditions in the turret. I have found a 1/35 scale drawing of a '27 model that shows just that twin MG version, but my references suggest it never went into production. At least the kit measures up very well to the drawing, and I'm sure I can convert it to a single MG. Sprues: The other unfortunate thing is that the headlight is moulded solidly: elf to the rescue, me thinks: Tiny road-wheels with three massive attachment points each, proof if any were needed that we're looking at a Hobbyboss kit: Indy links are free from EPMs, but will need a lot of cleaning up to recover from their three attachment points: There's also a small fret of PE that I didn't take a picture of. As the SU-18 is already in the pipe line it looks like Hobbyboss is going the same route with this that they took with the T-26. T-18 bridge layer anyone? Got the road-wheels cleaned up and fitted to the suspension yesterday. The instructions reckon you shouldn't use glue to fit the tiny road wheels to the suspension If you fancy spending a lot of time on your hands and knees praying to the carpet monster you should follow the instructions, anybody else should use glue. Suspension/hull interface is typical Hobbyboss: less than positive. Once I've dealt with the, even tinier, return rollers and got the rest of the chassis sorted I'll have some pics for you.

Spread out Leon, make yourself at home. So, the first tedium in the shape of the running gear is out of the way. Due to the typically sloppy fit of Hobbyboss running gear, most bits are just held in place temporarily with Uhu Pattafix (fake Blu Tac) to give me a chance to take it all apart again for detail painting. Contrary to the order suggested by the instructions I think I'll tackle the other tedious bit next: indy links. So pull up a chair, take out your teeth, get comfy. Oh, and ACW.

Welcome Martin and Bish, thanks for joining. Box art qualifies as false advertising! Enjoy your time on the carpet Dierk. Looks like you are off to a great start! Cheers Bill, glad you found a seat. So far no carpet sessions: I realised immediately that the 'no glue' idea was a bad one. False advertising indeed: yes, I was not impressed to find two featureless lengths of rod that are supposed to represent the twin MGs. Why HB didn't use a separate ball mount for the guns is also beyond me. Well, I sort of got one track run sorted - 51 links according to the destructions...imagine my surprise when the track didn't meet up. It gets better: 53 links is too long, 52 VERY tight. That's why I prefer white metal tracks! Taking a break from the tedium that is styrene indy links I tackled the turret next: drilled and carved out the MG mount and replaced it with a ball mount from the spares box, cannibalised a shelf-queen for the metal DT barrel. On the way to the cellar where I take pictures I thought it would be fun to have an argument with gravity, but (once again) drew the short straw: once I looked at the pics I noticed that the bottom part of the metal barrel had parted company. Thankfully I only had to deal with the tile monster (an alltogether more forgiving creature) to retrieve it: Started assembling the second rack run. More pics soon. Thanks for popping by and ACW

Nice start on the turret Dierk! The replacement MG looks great. Cheers Leon! Got to order some more DT MG barrels soon - they're not cheap, but I find they make a huge difference. Gravity plus the tile monster, you're on a roll! Thankfully it was the turret that did all the rolling - I managed to stay upright for a change VERY COOL........
I might pick one up just for the round parts Thanks PJ, glad you're liking it! Not sure if the investment is worth it just for the round bits: the inside lip of the rubber tires isn't molded on - something I'm somewhat hacked off about. Anyhoo, reattached the missing bit to the MG. For the right track I ended up settling for 52 links, and made up a run of 52 for the left - stands to reason you might think...wrong: I ended up with a three link overlap - if you look up 'fan of styrene indy links' in the dictionary, you won't find a picture of me Everybodies favorite - pictures: You know the drill: ACW

Sure you're not using alternative math in your track link calculations there Dierk?

Looks good so far, tracks will be fun, smaller then Pz I or II Cheers mate - I like the 'so far' Actually, the links are quite chunky at 8mmx5mm - so not too bad. Ta muchly Leon, glad you're liking it! Looks great gotta love these little tanks. Can't wait to see when the paint hits it. Cheers Mike - at this rate paint/styrene interface should occur before the end of the week. Sure you're not using alternative math in your track link calculations there Dierk? Maths (alternative or otherwise)? Calculations? No, simple counting did it for me

That looks like a fun little project despite the tile monster action. Love it ! Yes it's a nice little gap-filler Guy - although way over-priced IMO. Apart from the sloppy fit of the running gear I've had no real problems with it. Getting the rear PE screen to fit, despite annealing it to within an inch of its life was a bit of a struggle. But things like the moulded-solid MG mount, the lack of moulded on rubber tyres on the inside of the road-wheels and the solidly-moulded headlight are not what I'd expect from a kit that retails for up to 30€. Nearly finished, just a few bits left to do: Next time you see it, it'll be grey. Hope you like what you see and ACW.

Some people are so hard to please sometimes 😉 Looks ok from here bud 😀 I'm hard to please all of the time I wonder if enemy soldiers laughed at it before it started shooting at them? I know you're just trying to be funny, but during the Sino-soviet border conflict in 1929, the Chinese soldiers pretty much $hat themselves when they encountered them. To us it may look quaint and funny, but the WWI French FT it was based on was the first modern tank in that it had the engine in the rear and a traversable turret. Right up until the early days of WWII a 37mm gun was considered state of the art. The armour was thick enough to withstand small-arms fire and shrapnel, and being small it must have been pretty difficult to score a direct hit with the anti-tank weapons of the era.

I like it 100%, it really is a small but special model with those big idler wheels and the oddly placed return rollers (3/1). You built it and it looks perfectly ok to me.
Let there be paint !

Glad you like it Guy! Yes, it rates very highly on my weird-o-meter. Just putting the finishing touches to it: added the elf headlight with some wiring, a different horn (possibly from a HB T-26) - just waiting for the glue to set so I can route the wiring properly. Instead of using the PE 'bolts', that just turned out to be round disks, I ended up using 0.5mm Masterclub bolts. It's always the last little bits that seem to take the longest... Gotta take my dad to the quacks for a hearing test tomorrow so he can get new hearing aids - he managed to smash one by dropping it and a couple of days later the other one gave up the ghost in sympathy...boy, am I looking forward to not having to shout anymore! But hopefully I'll manage to squeeze in primarige as well.

So, after the total wind-up that was my dad's appointment with the ear-quack - one and a half hours of watching, I kid you not, 'Waiting Room TV' where they're trying to flog you treatments that aren't covered by the health insurance...kerching! Hearing aid place is right next door, but guess what: first of all you need an appointment (week on Thrusday) then you don't just get the HA, no, you have a consultation meeting first (another 1.5hrs) with another hearing test - despite them having the results from the ear-quack - followed, no doubt, by yet another appointment...kerching, kerching where was I? Oh yes: T-18 As it's a prewar tank (and, more to the point, the bottle was handy) it got a layer of red-oxide primer: Did that yesterday evening, and this morning it got some 3B AU (the predecessor of 4BO) from Ammo, my attempts at modulating it with 4BO shine and dark base were, well least said about that the better. I'll probably try and introduce some more colour variation with oils once I've sealed the model with some varnish: Tracks got a coating of German camo black brown over grey primer, and the figure I'm going to introduce later got pimed as well. Thanks for looking and ACW.

Looks like a busy day in the paint department! Sounds like the perfect circle-scam with the hearing guys, just go in with an ear trumpet next time and shout random phrases loudly!
