There's a good reason for the lack of piccies: I had a 'Remco moment' with the decals - the first one was OK, the others disintegrated more or less badly. Painted the missing bits, but then realised that the bits of decal that remained were really thick and would never look good, so scraped them off and painted those bits too...should've just painted them by hand to start off with and saved myself the bother of masking, gloss lacquer, cleaning AB... I won't ever be taking close-up shots of this, because the finish and paintjob are just not very good. I can't wait to see the back of this!

The thought had crossed my mind, but then it wouldn't fit into the scene I've planned for it - and I haven't got anything else to replace it with in my stash.

Before the lack of pictures drives Guy to seek out therapy, I thought I better squeeze in an update. After adding some chipping I made some masks for the windscreen wiper blades and gave the lot a coat of matte lacquer. With a brush dampened with AB cleaner I wiped some of the lacquer off the windows: Next: remove the masks, paint and attach the wipers followed by pigments. Thanks for stopping by and ACW.

Now that is one battered motor in desperate need of a wash!! I love the work on the window grime and the wiper blade masking in particular!!
Keep it up mate! All the best.

Cheers gents! In case you were wondering what happened to this thread: project's on hold while I'm waiting for the decals for the BA-10 to arrive.

And guess what just arrived? Well, I was about to give the I-16 a coat of gloss. Might as well kill two stones with one bird and do the BA-10 at the same time.

At last! I've been hanging on with baited breath waiting for these to arrive so I can only image how you've been feeling!! When do we get some pics of them actually in situ?

When I get round to doing them Andrew - got quite a bit on at the mo: some RL issues, a wingy to finish and Jordi from Minor is waiting for me to do a test-build using his, about to be released, PE set for the NKL-26. Remember this?

Finally found some time to do the markings. Started my making a board for the sign on the turret. Just a bit of 0.5mm plastic card with some strips for bracing and a bit of thick aluminium foil as a bracket for the 0.32mm wire I used for a prop. At this point it's foldable inable, but will be glued into place eventually. I put a little 'L' shaped bracket on the turret for the sign to sit on: The back of the board was painted with Vallejo Old Wood with a thinned wash of Vallejo Woodgrain on the board only: Unlike the other two types of markings, the decal sheet didn't have a spare for the sign - but could've done with it: unlike the other markings which went on without too much of a struggle, it broke into three large pieces and some smaller ones on the carrier film. Not sure what caused it. Patched it up with some red and black paint: Some more pics: Despite sealing them with gloss lacquer some silvering is evident... Looking forward to the next bit where I get to try out my new oils. Thanks for popping by and ACW

Moving right along with this one Dierk! Sounds like the decals might not have been printed/sealed properly on the sheet...but you salvaged it nicely.

Thanks for the support and the kind words PJ and Leon! Moving right along with this one Dierk! Sounds like the decals might not have been printed/sealed properly on the sheet...but you salvaged it nicely. Because of lack of experience I'm not very good with decals - I suspect it either had to do with the water having been too cold, or, according to Martin, that they got a bit chilly on the way here. Had a major matte lacquer session today: BA-10, I-16 and even dragged one of my shelf queens into the cellar. Strangely, the decals on one side are nice and matte, but the ones on the other side are still silvering somewhat - thankfully on the side that will be facing away from the focus of the dio it's going to end up in.
