I have at various times in my life chosen to build a thing or two while away from my bench at home. Lately, I have found my man cave in the basement, while very well suited for solitude and privacy, doesnt mesh so well with my 1 and 3 year olds need for attention or my wifes need for serious support LOL. I also happen to be blessed with a job that occasionally allows me time to do a little tinkering..... so, I have had more than a couple "mobile model medic kits" (gives away my job) that I have used. It started out when I was a kid and had no way to keep hold of all the "stuff" one begins to acquire to build with. Enter dads metal fishing tackle box.... he works too much to use it anyway so why not!!!!. Some 30 years and half a dozen different boxes later, this is my latest set up. Found either in my dorm at work, or at my kitchen table, much to the dismay of my loving wife, whos usually trying to clean up kids messes and inevitbily ends up cleaning up the kitchen table too since daddy builds his models there now LOL.... So, if you got one, take a picture of it and show it !!!! (incidentally, the airbrush and compressor are missing from the picture, but not from the package LOL)

This is a good setup. But can you actually airbrush while away? That's the next step for me.
I tend to be on the road about half of the time and will try to plan what to bring along which will travel well. Usually it's a small hardside box with some sprues or just some figures an Vellejo paint.

One is a Harbor freight compressor only with a Grex tritium side feed, and the other is my new Airbrush Master compressor/tank with an Iwata Neo. Both are relatively portable for my car and plug in to US current. For you, I don't know how much space you get to have but I would say if you wanted the compressor set up, a good quality camera box, or pilots flight bag would easily fit the compressor and airbrush/hose. Wouldn't recommend something with a pressure tank on it for your application (you would know best if its a go/no go) As far as the paints, yea I have found AV to be the easiest to bring along... but they are always in my car... never took them aloft so I would expect its like any other 17 ml bottle of liquid.... ziploc bag and be willing to part with whatever's in the bag LOL.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the precipitate.

It is funny that you started this thread.
I've, finally, reached a point where I have the ability to do some building someplace other than the man-cave. And, like you, I find that it is kind of nice - I can still be with the family while I'm gluing stuff together.
I don't have quite the setup that you do, mostly because I have the default "fallback" that, if I need something, I can run downstairs and grab it, but I have started to put a Kitchen Kit together. Right now it is incredibly basic - a crappy old plastic tool box with some sprue cutters, a few files, X-Acto, glue... you know the basic stuff. But I've been thinking of expanding on it.
I'll try to give some thought to it and post what I come up with.
Once again - great thread!

I have my old box and its up for grabs ... its just too damn big for me and I find that these two little boxes are more convenient for the dining room table... plus the pull out trays allow me to spread out and clean back up quickly.... with the nice size of Vallajo paint and thinner jars, along with their washes and pigments, I have a pretty darn extensive paint/primer/weathering/cleaning kit. The yellow box is all building stuff.. like you said... glues, nippers, tweezers, files, clamps, toothpicks and everything else you might ever need once LOL. I even managed two sets of vision amplifiers that fit right onto my glasses and work BEAUTIFULLY. Ill have to organize it again and take some pictures of each box a little more in depth.. but glad it gets people thinking and hopefully start seeing what other ideas are out there for the mobile man cave LOL
