Good evening everyone. Andy, These MK tracks are far more simple that the first set I worked with....Sherman tracks for a Firefly. Multiple parts per link. Though the end result was pretty sharp. Brother Bob, As always, thank you! TRM, The wearing and weathering of the tracks is now like "Dragging out the tracks" JoelSmith, Funny you mention that. I have a white wash and snow effects I've been itchin' to try. Chromdome35, Thank you kindly for your compliment. The progress on the tracks has slowed. Using graphite sticks and smudging sticks is going slow due to needing to handle the tracks carefully. Giving them a worn appearance is paying off though. The tracks still have yet to be soiled. I hit the casting numbers with some dry brushing.

Good evening everyone. I finally had to come in from the bench. It's 48ºF in the garage. It never broke freezing outside. Theres ice on everything and I've been hearing chain saws and branches breaking all day. Fortunately my trees are all intact. Leon Thank you kindly my good man. Andy It's getting closer my friend. A productive session at the bench and a couple of D'oh moments. First all, the beginnings of the base coat got laid down. Here are a couple of parts that I realized as I was painting that I had forgotten to place. Ice cleat straps, front right tie down, left head light. I opted to use 0.010" phosphor bronze wire for the anchor points to the straps. It was far easier to fasten the straps around this medium and then CA them to the beastie. The roof will not be glued on. This is just a "heres what it looks like sealed up" pic

Good afternoon everyone. Now with the holidays solidly behind me and my work schedule no longer being rearranged because of said holidays....I finally got some bench time in. Also, everything outside is now frozen. Alternating layers of ice and snow. ODOT has now required chains on Interstate 5 through Eugene. A good day to play at the bench. The aerial recognition marking was painted on using a mix of Vallejo Red, Dark Red, Black Red. I cut a circle out of some Tamiya masking tape and painted away. Here is the decal that would have been required. I think not This marking is on both sides of the casemate. They will just be peeking through the white wash with a brighter red "908" overlaying it. The fuel tanks were actually done a couple of weeks ago. They were painting with a rust primer and weathered using a chipping medium.

Red looks sharp Dave! The Russian beast is looking mighty fine! Picked up a measly 4 inches of the white stuff here...just south of us got hammered though! No complaints!

Thank you kindly TRM. I mixed the red on the fly....it worked out well. Interstate 5 through Eugene is alsorts of messed up right now. I think I'm gonna "steal" some more bench time tonight.

Hey Andy! Looking at it now & realigning that the "908" marlins are indeed that pink (a heavily weathered red)....I wish I had damaged the "tin" pieces Oh well

The beastie hit its ugly duckling stage this afternoon. Everything got dot filtered, with the exception of the wheels. I'll be getting back to those.

I really like this build...... I do have one question. And I am asking because I do not know the answer and am seeking knowledge...NOT trying to drop in some Seattle style "backhanded insult".... so here goes.... What, why or how is the deal with the "pink" looking paint on the numbers... Where did that originate?? was it some weird Russian paint shortage or is it an actual Russian paint color?? Again just asking for my edivication..... Thank you

Thank you Andy...just getting' started with the weathering. Oh yeah!
Hello Panzerjager2. Thank you for the compliment. "Seattle Style backhanded insult"....that phrase damn dear made me spit my beer out. Thank you for the chuckle. Any who....I am not sure where the pink originated. It could be a red paint that just did not stand up to the elements. That's the theory I'm going with anyway.

I"ll but that...heck it's as good as any other answer right?
No doubt you being an Oregonian you have shopped for books at the "holiest of holies" Powell's in Portland. I think I'm supposed to kneel when I say the name? Man I LOVE Powell's book store... I think I'm gonna be buried there......

Panzerjager2, No worries. I translated it on the fly. I can not go the Powell's and stay within my self imposed budget. One can never have too many books.

Looking mighty fine! But my eagle eye spotted something: looks like you painted the inside of the driver's hatch white? That was only done for a very short period at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, until it was realised that the open hatch made an irresitible target for German snipers. After that they were painted boring old 4BO. BTW, 'eagle eye' is funny to German ears, as it sounds like 'hedgehog egg' to us (the German word for egg (Ei) is also slang for a certain kind of ball )

Good morning Dierk. Thank you on two counts. Firstly, for the compliment. Secondly, for the "hedgehog egg" (sorry, I couldn't resist ) . I had wondered about the paint call out in the instructions. As you can see I went with the instructions. It is still fixable as I still have plenty of 4BO.

This was a good week at the bench. A few more sessions of weathering.....followed by white wash. I used MIG's washable white and, sprayed this through an AB. The after shots..... Unfortunately the hand painted numbers took a hit. Since the dot filter is oil based, the acrylic didn't quite have the holding power when it came time to distress the white wash. Numbers repainted. Here is with the winter grime wash applied to the beastie. Ice and show effects to follow.
