Good evening. The F-15I Ra'am is "mostly" done. I've set it aside because there are a couple of things I am debating about on it. I decided to move on to something more "down to earth". MiniArt's SU-122. It's a nicely engineered kit. Probably a bit over-engineered but, for the OCD amongst us, it's a hoot. Ask me how I know. The instructions have you starting with the drive train. This is the underside view of the engine. Not visible when mounted but, if one wanted to do a maintenance dio...easy peasy. Transmission and steering brakes. Steering brake leverage assembly. Some of this is dry fitted, some is fixed to the hull bottom. The gun is mostly assembled. The barrel will go on when it's closer to being mounted on the beast A delightful wee assembly made up of about 8 parts. The driver station Here's where there's been a lot of progress the last week or so. Base coat....top coat...chipping... The side panel is mocked up. The Brass is Migs wax based metallic paint. I cut it with a wee bit of mineral spirits and it went on quite well. Unfortunately much of this will not be visible when assembled but, it's there if you want it. I thought it would be easier to install the rear bulk head and exhaust after the engine was mounted....not really.... I built up the glacis because I needed to see if certain items were going to line up. I built up the drivers hatch open. Theres a lot going on up here.....

Sounds like a great kit Dave! All your pictures are gone. Think it's because photobucket is down for maintenance - lots of pics missing all over the place.

Now that I can see the pics again: Looks the bee's knees! Such a shame that all that lovely detail will be virtually invisible.

Good afternoon. Tony Your weirdness is not news my good man. It's one of the things I like about you. Thank you kindly for the compliment. Leon There is a lot of detail packed into this kit. Thank you for the compliment. Dierk Thank you very much. I won't have the beast completely sealed up. I am going to try and leave the roof removable. As to the engine bay...I'll leave a hatch or two open. Tojo72 Thank you very much my good man. I was wondering about those AFV T-34's. How did it go together? George Thank you kindly. Bill With the amount of detail included, the build has many options on how they'd like to display the beastie. A nice bit of progress today. The gun is now painted and mounted. I had tried using a chipping medium but, I fear I may have gone too light with it. There was no chipping, only paint removal. Plan B.... Canisters mounted and painted on the left casemate wall. This ready rack will be on the left side of the compartment. Making things even cozier yet.

Splendid! Got an AFV T-34 shelf-queen - from what I remember it pretty much built itself. Got a vague recollection that the exhaust didn't line up where the ones from the engine meet up with the parts that go over the transmission

Good morning all. Tojo72, Thank you kindly. Leon, Thank you for the compliment. adt70hk, Thank you good sir for the compliment. If you eyeballs spot anything call it out. I am always looking for different viewpoints. Andy, This will end up being one of my quicker builds. The engine is a gem! Dierk, Thank you kindly. That is one spot where the AFV and the MiniArt kits share something. That being said. It might not have been this way had I assembled the rear bulkhead assembly with the exhaust as the instructions had called for. I thought it might be easier to add after the engine was mounted the the floor. Turns out it was a real pain with my way. Armorguy, Thank you kindly for the compliment my good man.
There has been progress on the beastie. I'll get some pics up later

The case mate is largely done. The roof will not be glued so as to be able to display the interior. Grab rails for both sides were scratched. The kit rails had at least nine or so attachment points. This kept the part safe on the sprue but, even removal with a razor saw was tricky. I snapped the first one and, decided to use brass wire for the rod instead. I used the kit mounting points. Boxes for both sides are mounted. Fuel drum mounts are only mounted on the right side. I'll put up a pic to show why. First the right side. No fuel drum brackets...yet. First, I need to mount the tarp and PE straps first. This is only to give me more room in which to work. Paint was laid down on the rear deck prior to mounting. Masking the openings would have been a pain. The rear wall of the casemate is assembled...it has yet to be painted and mounted. This was the best close up of the gun sight that I could get. It does stand proud of the top of the casemate. There is a cupola that covers it. I wish I had planned better as I would have had the shutters open on the cupola.

TRM, Thank you kindly my good man. I'm looking forward to it. Contemplating a wornnwinter white wash with it. Andy, Compared to the F7F-3 Tigercat build (2 1/2 years) this is quite rapid. :-)

Great idea leaving the roof removeable to show off that rather nice interior! If my stash wasn't already overflowing its designated area I'd be adding one of these to my collection - but I'd probably opt for the one without interior.

Good evening everyone. Apologies for the delay. Holidays and life has jacked with my work schedule...which just jacks me up. Leon, Thank you my good man. It is a rather nicely engineered kit. There is only one reservation I have about the kit....the tracks...read on. Armorguy, Thank you kindly. It would be a shame to button that all up. It really begs to be in a maintenance dio. The Chaos Thank you very much for the compliment. Dierk Thank you very much. Speaking of stashes....I am going to need to thin mine. As I've said, this is a nicely engineered kit. The tracks are "snap-together", in that they have small pins on each side. I tried a short run to see if they were going to be worth it. Initially it was. Then as the run got longer, it started to self destruct with the slightest of handling. The tracks themselves have wonderful detail, including casting marks. I bagged them up for future use with a wreck. Here's what I had in the stash for a future project. Looks like I'll need to order another set. I painted the tracks with Vallejo Track Primer. The second shot you can better see the casting marks.

MK tracks do offer more sharp details than some metal tracks for sure! Can't wait to see them on...
